National Assembly Donates to the House of Chiefs

Hon Catherine Namugala, MP, First Deputy Speaker officially handed over a Recording and Public Address System to the House of Chiefs on Monday 10th December, 2018. The Equipment was donated by the National Assembly of Zambia to the House of Chiefs as part of collaboration between the two Houses. The Hon First Deputy Speaker appealed to their Royal Highnesses, the Chiefs to continue to work closely with the National Assembly, that host the Honorable Members of Parliament who come from their Chiefdoms.
 

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA CLERK LEADS TEAM OF EXPERTS IN REDRAFTING THE CPA AFRICA REGION CONSTITUTION

The Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia, Mrs Cecilia N Mbewe, in her capacity as Chairperson of the Society of Clerks-at-the-Table (SoCATT) Africa Region led a group of experts mandated to review and redraft the entire Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Constitution. The meeting took place from 19th to 23rd November, 2018, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The Expert Committee had a representation of draftsmen and women from the four sub-regions of CPA Africa: Central; East; Southern; and West Africa.

MATIBINI PAYS RESPECT TO THE FALLEN HEROES OF WORLD WAR

The Rt Hon Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, joined the Head of State, His Excellency Mr Edgar Lungu President of the Republic of Zambia, other Senior Government Officials and Military personnel in honouring the fallen heroes of the First World War 1 (WW1) on Sunday 11th November, 2018, at the Cenotaph in Lusaka.

The Remembrance Day is an annual memorial observed by a two minute silence to honour the service men, women and civilians who lost their lives in the First World War (WW1).

CLERK OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA HOSTS THE CPA AFRICA SoCATT STEERING COMMITTEE PLANNING MEETING

The Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia, Mrs Cecilia Mbewe who is the current Chairperson of SoCATT Africa hosted the Steering Committee Planning meeting for the SoCATT Africa Region from the 9th to 12th November, 2018 in Livingstone, Zambia.

SPEAKER MATIBINI CALLS FOR STRONG PARLIAMENTARY OVERSIGHT ACCOUNTABILITY COMMITTEES

Speaker of the National Assembly Hon Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, MP, SC, has said that there is need to have a strong parliamentary oversight accountability committee system which should play a critical role in the prudent utilisation of public resources. He said that such a system would provide checks and balances required to ensure a properly functioning and transparent public financial management.

Diplomats say “Ayes” to Parliamentarians

Parliamentarians on Friday, 2nd November, 2018 beat the Diplomats accredited to Zambia to a tune of 9-6 in netball and 2-0 football in the Independence Day celebrations tournament organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Child Development.

MEMBERS OF THE PAN AFRICAN PARLIAMENT URGED TO CHAMPION THE RATIFICATION OF THE MALABO PROTOCOL TO THE CONSTITUTIVE ACT OF THE AFRICAN UNION RELATING TO THE PAN AFRICAN PARLIAMENT.

Members of the Pan African Parliament have been urged to champion the ratification of the Malabo Protocol to the Constitutive Act of the African Union relating to the Pan African Parliament. Speaking during the official opening of the First Session of the Fifth Parliament of the Pan African Parliament in Kigali, Rwanda, President of the Pan African Parliament, Honourable Roger Nkodo Dang called on the Members to work towards the ratification of the Malabo Protocol in their respective countries and in the member countries of the African Union.

The President of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu on Wednesday, 24th October, 2018 honoured Mr Augustine Mwila, an employee of the National Assembly of Zambia, with the President’s Insignia of Mercy.
