Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Rt. Honourable Ms Nelly B K Mutti, MP has commenced a five days tour of Constituency Offices on the Copperbelt. Honourable Mutti who was welcomed by the Minister for Copperbelt Province, Honourable Elisha Matambo, MP on Sunday, 2nd April, 2023, said she is in the province to check on how the Constituency Offices are faring.
She added that Constituency Offices need to be effective in providing parliamentary information and rendering the much-needed link between the constituents and the Members of Parliament. Speaker Mutti stressed the key role that Constituency Offices need to play in aiding constituents intending to benefit from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The Speaker also paid a courtesy call on His Royal Highness Chief Nkambo who commended her for being the first Speaker of the National Assembly to visit him. He underscored the partnership between government and the traditional leadership in delivering development to the people. He urged Honourable Mutti to ensure that information dissemination on the work of the National Assembly is enhanced in order for the people at the grassroots to benefit from it.
Later in the day, the Speaker visited Chifubu Constituency Office where she interacted with the area Member of Parliament, Mr Llyod Lubozhya and Constituency Office staff.
The Speaker is accompanied by the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr Roy Ngulube, Acting Deputy Clerk (Corporate Affairs), Mr Stephen Kawimbe and other members of staff of the National Assembly.
