SPEAKER MUTTI CALLS FOR MORE COOPERATION AMONG AFRICAN PARLIAMENTS

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP has called for more cooperation among African Parliaments.  Speaking in Nairobi on Monday, 24th April, 2023, when she paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, The Right Honourable Dr Moses M Wetang’ula, EGH, MP, Honourable Mutti said there is need to enhance cordial relations among African Parliaments who have more international Parliamentary friendship groups and less among themselves.

She added that consolidating relations among African Parliaments such as the Zambia/Kenya parliamentary relations is cardinal in developing workable African solutions.  Speaker Mutti said it was against this backdrop that the National Assembly of Zambia prioritised the visit to the National Assembly of Kenya as a workable solution to improving the work of the former’s House Business Committee.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya, The Right Honourable Dr Moses M Wetang’ula, EGH, MP reiterated the long-standing relations between Zambia and Kenya spanning from the time of President Kenneth Kaunda and President Jomo Kenyatta. Honourable Wetang’ula highlighted that due to the cordial relations between the two countries, Zambia played a significant role in the development of the new Committee system of the National Assembly of Kenya.  He expressed gratitude that Honourable Mutti was the first Speaker from the African continent to visit the National Assembly of Kenya since he assumed office.

Earlier, the Honourable Madam Speaker and her delegation visited the Zambia High Commission in Kenya and was met by the Deputy High Commissioner Mr Kapambwe Nduna and other staff of the High Commission.

The House Business Committee, led by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP is in Kenya on a benchmarking visit.  The Honourable Speaker is accompanied by the Chief Whip, Honourable Stafford Mulusa, MP, Leader of Opposition Honourable, Brian Mundubile, MP, Whip for the Patriotic Front, Mr Stephen Kampyongo, MP, Whip for Independent Members of Parliament, Mr Jay E Banda, MP, Ms Kampamba Mulenga, MP, Mr Clement Andeleki, Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr Roy Ngulube and staff from the National Assembly of Zambia.
