CZECH SENATE AND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY STRENGTHEN TIES AMID DROUGHT SUPPORT

The Senate of the Czech Republic, His Excellency Milos Vystrcil said his government has extended a donation of 200 thousand United States dollars to Zambia for drought Mitigation, demonstrating its commitment to supporting the country’s development agenda.

The Senate President said this during a courtesy visit on the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA on Tuesday, 10th April, 2024 at Parliament Buildings.

His Excellency acknowledged the challenges posed by drought in countries like Zambia and to address this, his government is committed to complimenting the efforts of the Zambian government especially in the areas of agriculture, health, nutrition, social affairs, governance, education, climate change and sustainable development.

The senate President further called for more bilateral cooperation between the Zambian Parliament and the Czech Senate, in order to build stronger partnerships between the Parliamentary institutions both at National and Parliamentary committee levels.

Meanwhile, Speaker Mutti expressed appreciation for the Czech Republic’s support, describing it as a timely contribution given the urgent global threat of climate change to food security. She commended the Czech government for its generosity and underscored the significance of strengthening partnerships for mutual benefit.

Echoing her sentiments, Nalolo Member of Parliament, Mr. Imanga Wamunyima, thanked the Czech government for its assistance, emphasizing the positive impact it would have on Zambia's constituents and smallholder farmers through various essential interventions.
