SPEAKER MUTTI EXTENDS WARM FAREWELL TO OUTGOING ALGERIAN AMBASSADOR

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Right Honourable Ms. Nelly B K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA, expressed heartfelt gratitude and bid farewell to the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Saadi, as his diplomatic tenure in Zambia came to an end. These sentiments were conveyed when the Ambassador paid a farewell courtesy call on her on Wednesday, 24th April, 2024 at Parliament Buildings.

The Honourable Speaker thanked the Ambassador for his contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and Parliamentary relations between Zambia and Algeria, particularly commending his role in facilitating her benchmarking tour of the Algerian Parliament in May 2023.

“This tour led to the establishment of the Zambia-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group, a platform aimed at promoting dialogue and the exchange of best practices in Parliamentary diplomacy and democracy,” she said.

On the occasion, Speaker Mutti further acknowledged the Ambassador’s commitment to renewing the educational scholarship programme, which has significantly contributed to increasing capacity in various critical fields for Zambia’s development.

Madam Speaker encouraged the Ambassador to remain committed to Africa’s integration and development as he transitions to a new phase in his career, expressing confidence that his diplomatic legacy will continue to have a positive impact.

Speaker Mutti further extended an invitation for the Ambassador to revisit Zambia, highlighting the country's diverse tourism offerings and heartened him to promote Zambia's tourism sector among Algerian citizens.

And His Excellency, Ambassador. Ahmed Saadi, reiterated his commitment to sustaining bilateral relations between the two countries and expressed gratitude to the Zambian Government for the reopening of the Algerian Embassy in Lusaka.

The Ambassador assured the Speaker that his successor would continue to build upon the foundation set to further strengthen the existing cordial relations between Zambia and Algeria.

Other pressing matters discussed during the farewell courtesy call included, the establishment of a Zambian Embassy in Algeria and streamlining visa issuance processes. Both parties affirmed their commitment to addressing pending issues to further enhance bilateral relations.
