SPEAKER MUTTI IS NEW PF-ICGLR PRESIDENT

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honourable Ms Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA has assumed the Presidency of the Forum of Parliaments of Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (PF-ICGLR), taking over from Right Honourable Jemma Nunu Kumba, MP, Speaker of the Transitional Legislative Assembly of the Republic of South Sudan.  

Speaker Mutti was conferred as President on Friday, 19th April, 2024 at the just ended 14th Forum of Parliaments of the ICGLR Conference held in Livingstone from 15th to 19th April, 2024.

Speaking during her maiden speech as incoming President, Speaker Mutti pledged to make a meaningful contribution to the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the Great Lakes Region.  She also expressed her profound gratitude to Honourable Jemma Nunu Kumba, MP, Speaker of the Transitional Legislative Assembly of the Republic of South Sudan for the manner in which she presided over the affairs of the forum during the tenure of her office.

The Conference was attended by Speakers of Parliament and Parliamentarians from Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. 

The Forum of Parliaments of the ICGLR was established on 4th December, 2008 with the mission of facilitating effective engagement of parliamentarians in the implementation of the Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region and its Protocols.
