CHIMBAMILONGA CONSTITUENCY OFFICE SENSITISES KAPISHA WARD

Chimbamilonga Constituency Office conducted an outreach programme in Chibanga and Mushi villages in Kapisha ward to sensitize the constituents on the roles of the Member of Parliament and Constituency Office. The event that took place on Monday, 5th August, 2019 was attended by over 600 people and included, local cultural groups who through their performances disseminated information on the work and activities of the National Assembly.

SPEAKER MATIBINI ATTENDS 10TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF SPEAKERS OF AFRICAN PARLIAMENTS

Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Honourable, Justice, Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, FCIArb,  MP was among several Speakers who attended the 10th Conference of Speakers of African Parliaments, held on 6th and 7th August, 2019, in Midrand, South Africa.
The Conference hosted by the Pan African Parliament was held under the theme: Towards durable solutions to forced migration to accelerate integration and development in Africa: Role of National and regional Parliaments” This is line with the 2019 African Union theme.

Lukashya, Kasama Central and Malole constituencies exhibit at Northern Province Agriculture Show

The National Assembly of Zambia through Lukashya, Kasama Central and Malole Constituency Offices participated in the Northern Province Agriculture, Tourism and Investment show which took place from 28th to 30th June, 2019 in Kasama.  The three Constituency Offices which exhibited at the Agriculture Show under the theme, “Embracing Industrial Development” provided information to the show-goers on the roles of the Constituency Office and the Member of Parliament.  Further, the Constituency Office staff took the opportunity to note concerns that were presented by the public

Speaker Matibini challenges Parliamentarians to positively contribute to addressing climate change

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Rt. Hon Mr Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, BA, FCIArb, MP, has challenged Members of Parliament to equip themselves with necessary tools and skills in order for them to engage and contribute effectively to climate change. He said this when opening the workshop on promoting Parliamentary engagement on climate change on Monday, 22nd July, 2019 at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka.

Kabwata Constituency Office hosts a school choir song composing competition

The National Assembly of Zambia through the Parliamentary Reforms Programme Department (PRP) has been spearheading the implementation and use of the Partnership Strategies and Guidelines for Constituency offices and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Through this process, Kabwata Constituency Office partnered with some Civil Society Organizations, namely Africa Directions and SAfAIDS to implement an activity dubbed "the School Choir Song Composing competition," on Friday, 28th June 2019 at YMCA Hall.

Speaker Matibini challenges lawmakers to promote innovative national and international legal regimes that are adaptive to change

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia has said lawmakers need to act proactively in promoting innovative national and international legal regimes, that are adaptive to change.  He said this when he delivered a statement at the Second International Forum “Development of Parliamentarism” and Parliamentary Conference in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, 3rd June, 2019.

Speaker Matibini meets CPA Official

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Rt Hon Mr Justice Dr Patrrick Matibini, SC, BA, FCIArb, MP, welcomes at Parliament Buildings,  Mr Jarvis Matiya, Director of Operations at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Secretariat. Mr Matiya was in the country for a training workshop for Members of Parliament on the Role of Parliaments in Ratifying International Agreements which was held at Parliament Buildings from 19 to 20 June 2019.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL DIALOGUE FORUM SECRETARY, PATRICK CHISANGA ON THE OUTCOME OF THE FORUM

LUSAKA 15TH MAY, 2019. I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone that sacrificed their time to come and participate at this important national undertaking, the National Dialogue Forum.

The Forum has sat for a total number of 16 days from the initial ten days that were provided for in the National Dialogue Act of 2019. The Minister of Justice had to extend the sittings of the Forum in order to effectively attend to all the Bills that were before the Forum.

SPEAKER MATIBINI APPLAUDS IPU FOR SUPPORT

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia Rt. Hon Mr Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, FCIArb, BA, MP has  expressed gratitude for the continued technical assistance and further mentioned that the Zambian Parliament was ready to collaborate with the IPU in areas such as the ICT to move towards the creation of an e-parliament and many more which will benefit the institution. Dr Matibini assured Mr Chungong that the creation of the IPU ICT Hub at the Zambian Parliament was a milestone which shows the confidence the IPU has in its member parliaments.

His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud yesterday said Qatar proud of the international appreciation for hosting one of the most successful of IPU and the number of participants in the meetings. Al Mahamoud pointed out that these appreciations and praises expresses the confidence of the member of the Union on the State of Qatar, its Amir, government and people.

Al Mahmoud stressed that as president of the General Assembly, he will do as much as he can to achieve what was agreed on during the meetings of the General Assembly in Qatar in cooperation with the President and Secretary General of the Union.

He added, for the first time, speakers of parliaments held close meeting up on an initiative of the President to discuss a number of issues that help the parliamentary work. Speakers were agreed that there is an opportunity for parliaments to discuss many issues and ideas related to the IPU, which will represents a platform for parliament works in the coming period.
