Moses Moyo Praises the Namibian Parliament for its dedication to advancing Regional Integration

The Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Honourable Frank Moses Moyo, MP welcomed Members of Parliament of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts of Namibia paid a courtesy call on him at Parliament Buildings on Monday, 24th July 2023.

In his welcoming remarks, Honourable Moyo reaffirmed the long history of friendly relations that continue to exist at both bilateral and legislative levels, which have been reflected at parliamentary level through the exchange programs that have been undertaken between the Zambian and Namibian Parliaments over the years.

Speaking at the event, the Second Deputy Speaker praised the Namibian Parliament for its dedication to advancing Regional Integration which was evident by hosting the professional Development Seminars of the Society of Clerks-at-the-Table (SoCATT) African Region in August 2022 and a workshop on strengthening capacity for Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) project at the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF) in October, 2022.

During the meeting, the vice Chairperson of the Committee, Honourable Halalia Mukapuli stated that, “Namibia is a baby learning from Zambia.” Therefore, the main purpose of visiting Zambia is to learn and share information and experiences on the best practices in the parliamentary oversight, with Particular interest in information about holding Government to account for its use of public funds and resources by examine the public Accounts.

The Standing Committee on Public Accounts of Namibia is one of the Committees in the Parliament of Namibia, which is equivalent to the Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly of Zambia. The Members of Parliament are in Zambia on a benchmarking study visit to learn and exchange ideas on how to deal with challenges related oversight, accountability and transparency and to observe the Public Accounts Committee of the Parliament of Zambia in action when conduction public hearings as well as oversight activities as a practical appreciation of the public accounts effort.
