CONSULTATIONS ON THE CONTRIBUTION OF K 1 MILLION PER CONSTITUENCY FROM CDF FOR RURAL ELECTRIFICATION, STILL ON-GOING – MINISTER KAPALA

The Minister of Energy, Hon.  Eng. Peter C Kapala, MP says the K1 million contribution which Cabinet directed to be deducted from each Constituency’s Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was intended to ensure that most, if not all public institutions have access to electricity, whether grid-connected or off-grid.

He says that it should be noted that this endeavour has to be undertaken within the confines of the law and that presently, all necessary consultations on how this can actualised are being made. He has, therefore, appealed to Members of Parliament to exercise some patience regarding this issue and that as soon as consultations are concluded, the implementation plan will be announced through the Rural Electrification Authority (REA). He said this during his key note address at the REA Symposium for Members of Parliament on electrification of public facilities in rural areas using CDF, on Thursday, 13th July, 2023, at Parliament Buildings.
