Parley Staff challenged to interrogate the mandate of Parliament, identify performance gaps and develop strategies towards transformation

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Botswana, Hon Gladys K T Kokorwe, PH, MP has challenged staff of Parliaments who are the technocrats to interrogate the mandate of Parliament and identify performance gaps with a view of developing strategies towards transformation. The Hon Madam Speaker said this when she gave a keynote address at the 19th ZIMZAM senior parliamentary seminar being held under the theme “Transformation:Key to responsive Parliaments” in Kasane, Botswana from 5th to 8th October, 2018.

49TH CPA AFRICA REGION CONFERENCE CONVENES IN GABORONE BOTSWANA FROM 13TH TO 22ND AUGUST, 2018

The 49th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Conference was held at the Gaborone International Conference Centre (GICC) in Gaborone, Botswana from 13th to 22nd August, 2018 under the theme, “The Role of African Parliaments in Fostering National and Regional Security”.

The conference drew delegates and observers from all the four sub-regions of CPA Africa Region, namely Central Africa, East Africa, Southern Africa and West Africa. Zambia, Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique belong to the Central Africa Sub-region.

PAN AFRICAN PARLIAMENT STATUTORY COMMITTEES HOLD THEIR AUGUST, 2018 MEETINGS

The Pan African Parliament Statutory Committees held their meetings from 4th to 11th August, 2018 in Midrand, South Africa and Cairo, Egypt.
The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Economy held their meeting in Cairo, Egypt while the rest of the committees met in Midrand, South Africa.
The meetings covered legislative business as dictated by the mandate of the Pan African Parliament and under the African Union 2018 Theme of “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”

SADC Parliamentary Forum lobbies President Ramaphosa on the need to transform into a Regional Parliament

President of the SADC Parliamentary Forum and Speaker of the National Assembly of Angola Hon. Fernando Da Piedade Dias Dos Santos has led a Lobby Mission that held consultations with the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr Cyril Ramaphosa on the transformation agenda of the Forum into a SADC Regional Parliament.

PRESIDENT LUNGU VISITS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY STAND AT SHOW GROUNDS

His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu visited the National Assembly of Zambia stand at the ongoing 92nd Agricultural and Commercial in Lusaka on Friday, 3rd August, 2018.  The President who was in his jovial mood shouted “hear hear hear....order order order..” (sentiments usually used in Parliament) upon seeing the National Assembly stand.
