RELIGION A UNITING FACTOR, SPEAKER MUTTI

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP has said religion is an important factor in uniting a nation because it brings diverse people together in fellowship.  Honourable Mutti said this when she graced the “Bunge Prayer Breakfast” at the National Assembly of Kenya on Wednesday, 26th April, 2023.

The Speaker informed the gathering of both Kenyan and Zambian Parliamentarians that the National Assembly of Zambia had recently interacted with the Zambia National Prayer Breakfast Committee and was therefore, in the process of actualising a similar prayer breakfast group at the National Assembly of Zambia.

And leading the prayer breakfast word, Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, Mr Roy Ngulube read 1 Corinthians Chapter 12 from verse 12 to 26.  Mr Ngulube reiterated that just as the body of Christ, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, parliamentarians, though from the ruling party, opposition party or independent form one body of Parliament.  He added that each part has a role to play in the effective functioning of Parliament and that though diverse, Members of Parliament and staff must accept each other because there is power in diversity.

Mr Ngulube said, similarly, Africa is like the body of Christ with the various countries contributing to the development of the Continent.  He encouraged the Kenyan and Zambia Parliaments to foster relations in this regard.

The National Assembly of Kenya conducts the prayer breakfast every Wednesday morning.  The prayer breakfast which was graced by the Honourable Madam Speaker was attended by Parliamentarians from Kenya and Zambia.  The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP and her delegation are in Kenya on a benchmarking visit.
