SUNCOL EYES ZAMBIA ON FUTURISTIC SOLAR INVESTMENT

SUNCOL Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gazmend Luzi said Zambia has a favourable climate for renewable energy exploitation with potential for a futuristic Green Energy solar investment.  He added that investments in solar energy could ameliorate some of the energy challenges that the country is facing and reduce overreliance on hydropower.

ZAMBIAN PARLIAMENT INDEBTED TO CANADA FOR IT’S SUPPORT

Speaker of the National Assembly the Rt Hon Ms. Nelly B K Mutti, says the Zambian Parliament is indebted to Canada for the support received on the implementation of the Parliamentary Reforms Programme.

Speaking when she met the Head of Office, Counsellor and Consul at the Office of the High Commission of Canada, Ms Jennifer Hill, on Tuesday 24th January, 2023 at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka, Hon Mutti stated that the Reform programme was to realign the functions of Parliament with demands of plural politics.

ZAMBIAN AND GERMAN PARLIAMENTS PLEDGE TO ENHANCE COLLABORATION

The German Parliament has expressed interest in partnering with the Zambian Parliament to enhance collaboration on various parliamentary issues.

German Vice President of Parliament Ms. Yvonne Magwas said this in Berlin, Germany yesterday when she met First Deputy Speaker of the Zambian Parliament Hon Malungo Chisangano who is visiting the German Parliament on an orientation programme.

Ms. Magwas said the partnership will improve collaboration between the two parliaments adding that Zambia is a very important partner to Germany.

SPEAKER MUTTI ELECTED TO THE CSPOC STANDING COMMITTEE

Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt. Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP has been elected to seat on the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth that presides over the affairs of the Conference and makes all the arrangements for the next Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers. 

Honourable Mutti was elected at the ongoing 26th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth being held in Canberra, Australia from 3rd to 6th January, 2023.

National Assembly of Zambia Constituency Offices Can act as Research Satellites – Says Mrs Cecilia Sikatele-Mambwe

The Research Department in collaboration with the Parliamentary Reform Programme (PRP) held a virtual training workshop in basic parliamentary research for Constituency Office staff, from Monday, 19th to Tuesday, 20th December, 2022. The training workshop was officially opened by Mrs Cecilia Sikatele-Mambwe, Deputy Clerk (Procedure) of the National Assembly of Zambia. The aim of the workshop was among others, to enhance research, data collection and analysis skills for Constituency Office staff; as well as strengthen collaboration between the Research Department and Constituency Offices.

Acting Deputy Clerk (Administration) Opens the 2022 Research Department Capacity Building Workshop

The National Assembly of Zambia’s Research Department is conducting a two (2) day capacity building workshop from 21st to 22nd December, 2022, at Waterfalls Hotel in Chongwe district. The workshop was officially opened by Mrs Loveness Mayaka, Acting Deputy Clerk – Administration. The training workshop is being attended by all staff in the Research Department. Facilitators of the workshop were drawn from the Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research (ZIPAR) and Oxfam Zambia.

DEPUTY SPEAKER CHISANGANO URGES AFRICAN PARLIAMENTARIANS TO CARE FOR THEIR PEOPLE

First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Malungo Chisangano, MP has urged African Parliamentarians to care for their people by ensuring that they are provided with the basic necessities such as food, clean water and education, thereby, ensuring that their populations enjoy and exercise their human rights.

10th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the OACPS

The Organisation of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) successfully held the 10th Summit of Heads of State and Government from 6th to 10th December, 2022, in Luanda, Angola, under the theme: three continents, three oceans, a common destiny: building a resilient and sustainable OACPS.” At this Summit, Zambia’s Republican President, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, was represented by Hon Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP, Minister of Finance and National Planning.

SADC PARLIAMENTARY FORUM 52ND PLENARY ASSEMBLY SESSION

The Honourable Princess Kasune, MP, Deputy Government Chief Whip, led the Zambian Delegation to the 52nd Plenary Assembly Session of the Southern Africa Development Community Parliamentary Forum under the theme “The Role of Parliaments in Strengthening Legislative Frameworks For Peace and Security in the SADC Region” hosted by the Parliament of the Democratic Republic of Congo from 1st to 11th December, 2022.
