Ghanaian Minority Whips Benchmark the Zambian Parliament

The First Deputy Minority Whip Honourable Ibrahim Ahmed, MP and the Second Deputy Minority Whip, Honourable Comfort Cudjoe Ghansah Doyoe, MP from the Parliament of Ghana are undertaking a benchmarking study visit of the Zambian Parliament to, among other things, learn best practices in the Whipping system of the Zambian Parliament and the role of the Party Whips in maintaining discipline among Members of Parliament.

First Deputy Speaker, Chisangano dates Feira and Rufunsa Constituencies

The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Malungo Chisangano, MP on Monday, 31 st October, 2022 toured Feria and Rufunsa Constituency offices on a familiarization mission and to further carry out the implementation of the Tree Planting Campaign, launched by the Speaker of the National Assembly Rt. Hon. Nelly B. K Mutti, MP in July 2022.

KALOMO LAWMAKER ELECTED TO IPU HUMAN RIGHTS BODY

Kalomo Central  Member of Parliament  Mr Harry Kamboni, MP, has been elected to serve as Member of the Inter -  Parliamentary Union (IPU) Committee on Human Rights of Parliamentarians.  Mr Kamboni emerged as  one of the 4 winners in an election which had  7 contestants at the just ended 145th IPU Assembly which was recently held in Kigali, Rwanda, from 11 to 15th October 2022.

NAZ COMMITTEE STAFF SHARE LESSONS LEARNT FROM OTHER PARLIAMENTS

The Committee Department held a one day workshop for all members of staff in the Department on Saturday 15th October, 2022 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. The aim of the workshop was for members of staff in the Department to share their experiences and lessons learnt from the attachments they had undertaken to various Parliaments earlier in 2022.  In addition, the workshop was a follow up to an earlier Departmental workshop on report and minute writing techniques that was held in August 2022 in Siavonga.

ADDRESS GENDER INEQUALITIES FOR PEACE AND SUSTAINABILTY

Speaker of the National Assembly, the Right Honourable Madam Nelly B K Mutti, MP has called on Parliaments to take deliberate steps in adopting legal frameworks that guarantee women’s rights.

Madam Speaker said that, the way a society views women is reflected in the composition of its Parliaments. She noted that there can never be gender-sensitive Parliaments if gender equality is not embedded within a society.

Constituency Staff Encouraged To Remain Professional

Honourable Moses F Moyo, MP, the Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia encouraged the constituency staff to remain professional and assured them of the support of the Speaker whose desire is to ensure the constituency offices become an equipped access point for the National Assembly of Zambia.

He said this when he visited the Munali Constituency Office in Lusaka Province on Tuesday 11th October, 2022 where he went to familiarize himself with the operations of the office.

The First Deputy Speaker Hon. Malungo A. Chisangano, MP says Zambia will continue to promote and uphold women’s rights in leadership as they are key stakeholders in nation building in any democratic dispensation.

Speaking in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she is leading a delegation from Zambia at the Africa Liberal Network Women’s Leadership Programme, Hon. Chisangano, MP said women are the key decision makers in any nation and that the training will help every Member of Parliament to exchange and sharpen ideas on what must be done in making women count in decision making.
