Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honorable, Ms. Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA has through the Nelly Mutti Foundation presented awards to three best graduating law students from University of Lusaka (UNILUS), Mulungushi University and the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).
Speaking when she presented shields, certificates and prize money of K5000 each to Milimo Chibenga (UNILUS), Mayaba Masselina Chella (Mulungushi University) and Marian Chembeya (NIPA), who all graduated with distinctions, Speaker Mutti called on the three female law graduands to exhibit high levels of integrity if they were to succeed in the law profession.
Speaker Mutti said that it was not enough to be a high academic performer but that there was need for dignity and integrity as well as good attitude and behaviour in order to succeed.
The Speaker who is a graduate of the University of Zambia School of Law and one of the few Zambian women to have an illustrious career in private law practice has also offered to mentor the girls through their careers.
Speaker Mutti also announced that her Foundation will also include best graduating male law student’s category for the future awards as there was need to ensure that the boy child was not left behind as the girl child was being supported.
Speaker Mutti who observed that there has been a lot of support targeted at the girl child even at national level said that the foundation will not leave the boy child behind.
And University of Lusaka Vice Chancellor, Professor Mulega Jere and Professor Jacob Malungo of NIPA both expressed gratitude to Speaker Mutti for this kind gesture and encouraged her Foundation to continuing encouraging and inspiring the upcoming lawyers.
