SPEAKER MUTTI SIGNS MOU TO FOSTER TOLERANCE AND PEACE

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP, FAPRA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP), an organ of the Global Council of Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), and the National Assembly of Zambia, aimed at fostering cooperation in promoting tolerance and peace. Under the MoU, the parties will establish permanent relations in building tolerance and peace.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP, FAPRA has said despite steady progress towards greater gender sensitivity in the current climate finance regime, many existing mitigation and adaptation financing schemes need to deliver on women’s empowerment by systematically and effectively linking gender and climate finance. She noted that mitigation activities and associated financing have tended to focus more on large-scale energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, in which women are usually left out.

National Assembly Holds Master Class for Constituency Officers

The National Assembly of Zambia on November 21st held a Master Class at Parliament Buildings for selected Constituency Officers under the theme “Leveraging Constituency Offices as Research Satellites for Enhanced Data collection”.

The Master Class for Constituency Officers which preceded the Research Fair and the Members’ Symposium, was aimed at contextualizing the 2023 Research as well as allowing for interaction between constituency staff, selected partners and departments at the National Assembly.

SPEAKER MUTTI CALLS FOR GENDER AGENDA PUSH AMONG FEMALE PARLIAMENTARIANS

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt Hon Nelly BK Mutti, MP, FAPRA, has called on female Members of Parliament to set aside their political differences and collaborate in advancing the gender agenda in Zambia. Speaking when she officiated at the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the Zambian Women Parliamentarian Caucus, held from 18th to 19th November at Ciela Resort in Lusaka, Speaker Mutti emphasized the pivotal role of unity in driving transformative change.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY LAUNCHES “MY e-PARLIAMENT” APPLICATION AND COMMUNICATION STRATEGY

The National Assembly of Zambia, has developed an online citizen consultation platform called “My e-Parliament” in an effort to increase citizen participation in Parliamentary programmes through real time interaction with Members of Parliament.

Speaker launches Public Finance Management Handbook, unveils Parliamentary Budget Office

Speaker of the National Assembly right honourable Ms Nelly B K Mutti, MP, FAPRA, has launched the Public Finance Management (PFM) Handbook and officially unveiled the Parliamentary Budget Office.

Speaking during the official launch held in the Amphitheatre at Parliament Buildings on 14th November 2023, Ms. Mutti expressed gratitude to the cooperating partners for the support rendered to the National Assembly of Zambia.

The Non-governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) has encouraged the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia the Rt Honourable Nelly BK Mutti, MP, FAPRA not to be discouraged or intimidated by the demeaning language and calls for impeachment by some Members of Parliament.      

ACCESS TO INFORMATION BILL PRESENTED TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

Information and Media Minister, Hon. Cornelius Mweetwa, MP on Friday, 10th November presented the Access to Information (ATI) Bill to the National Assembly for the first reading. 

“Madam speaker, I beg to present a bill entitled the Access to Information Bill, National Assembly Bill 24 of 2023”, said Hon. Mweetwa.
