The Right Honourable Ms. Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, SC., MP, FAPRA, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia arrived in Mpika District of the Muchinga Province on Tuesday, 26th August, 2025 ahead of her five-day tour of Constituency Offices in the province.

During her tour, the Speaker is scheduled to commission the Kanchibiya Constituency Office, which was constructed using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), on Thursday, 28th August, 2025. She will also visit the other constituency offices in the Province which include: Mpika, Shiwang’andu, Chinsali, Isoka, Mafinga, Mfuwe and Nakonde Constituency.

Speaker Mutti is also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on traditional leaders in the province including: Senior Chief Kopa, Chief Mukwikile and Chief Luchembe. Others include Senior Chief Nkula, Chief Mweni Chifungwe and Chieftainess Nawaitwika in Nakonde District. Speaker Mutti firmly believes that traditional leaders are an integral part of the governance system of the country and therefore, should not be left out.

The Speaker is championing an audacious reform programme which is aimed at constructing and operationalising modern constituency offices in all the 156 constituencies in the country, in line with the National Assembly’s strategic direction which aims to enhance citizen participation in parliamentary business.

The Speaker’s commitment to this reform programme is premised on the understanding that by connecting with citizens and getting involved with their day-to-day challenges, elected officials can demonstrate the Government’s commitment to respond to the needs and problems of citizens. Additionally, by listening to the concerns of citizens, MPs can solicit valuable information to develop more responsive and inclusive policies and legislation.

During her tour of the constituency offices, Speaker Mutti will also lead traditional leaders, Members of Parliament and government officials into a tree planting exercise in all the constituencies being visited.

The tree planting initiative is aimed at encouraging communities to act within their capacities to mitigate the impacts of climate change which remains a constant threat to the country’s socio-economic development.
