Junior MPs Call for Enhanced Government Investment in Children’s Education and Healthcare

A spirited gathering of young voices echoed through the halls of the National Assembly of Zambia as the Junior Members of Parliament from different constituencies assembled for the Second Edition of the Fourth Session of the Junior Parliamentary Assembly.

The aspiring parliamentarians delivered powerful debates cantered on the theme: “Urge the Government to demonstrate its commitment to increasing and prioritising budgetary investments in quality education and healthcare services for all children.”

Representing diverse communities from rural and urban constituencies alike, each Junior MP took to the podium with thoughtful insight, passionate advocacy, and a deep commitment to the welfare of Zambia’s children. The Junior MPs emphasised the urgent need for increased funding for infrastructure particularly classrooms and boarding facilities to ensure safe, welcoming, and conducive learning environments and expanded investment in frontline health systems, including accessible clinics in remote areas. They further, advocated for parliamentary and public scrutiny of budgetary allocations, calling for clear tracking to ensure funds reach schools and clinics effectively and efficiently.

In closing remarks, the Junior Speaker acknowledged the energy and passion exhibited by the Junior MPs and reaffirmed the National Assembly’s dedication to nurturing civic literacy and youth empowerment.
