National Assembly of Zambia holds two-day joint capacity building and training workshop for three departments

The National Assembly of Zambia organised a two-day joint capacity building and training workshop for staff in the Committee Department; Parliamentary Budget Office; and Journals and Table Office, from 30th May to 2ndJune, 2025, at the Savee Beach Resort in Siavonga. The training was in line with objective 1.2 of the National Assembly of Zambia Strategic Plan (2022-2026), on enhancing the capacity of members of staff to effectively support Members of Parliament through enhancing knowledge levels and creating collaborative partnerships.

 

ONE ACRE FUND BACKS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY’S CLIMATE PUSH WITH MOU, TREE CHALLENGE BOOST

The National Assembly of Zambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with One Acre Fund, a partnership aimed to strengthen the Legislature’s efforts to combating climate change and promote Speaker Nelly Mutti’s ongoing tree planting initiative.

The agreement also seeks to train Members of Parliament and parliamentary staff on climate related issues, including carbon markets.

SPEAKER AWARDS THREE BEST FEMALE GRADUATING LAW STUDENTS FROM THREE UNIVERSITIES.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honorable, Ms. Nelly Butete Kashumba Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA has through the Nelly Mutti Foundation presented awards to three best graduating law students from University of Lusaka (UNILUS), Mulungushi University and the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).

SPEAKER NELLY MUTTI AND RWANDAN AMBASSADOR DISCUSS FUTURE COOPERATION

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Honorable Nelly B. K Mutti, SC, MP. FAPRA has welcomed the call by the Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaking during a courtesy call on Monday 5th May 2025, at Parliament buildings, Speaker Mutti states that the two countries continue to enjoy the long-standing, warm and mutual beneficial bilateral relations which are supported by shared values on peace and democracy.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY RETURNS TO THE TOP FLIGHT

In the heart of the Zambian Women’s National League, the 2024/25 season had been a rollercoaster of emotions, and as Week 29 concluded, the National Assembly football team stood tall, securing their triumphant return to the Eden University Women’s League for the next season. 

The table is telling the story of our  dominance: with 29 matches played, they clinched 19 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses, amassing 62 points. Our  goal difference of 24, scoring 40 while conceding just 16, highlighted our  balanced attack and staunch defense.

Speaker Mutti Encourages Female MPs to Utilise Constituency Offices

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Rt. Hon Ms. Nelly B. K. Mutti, SC., MP, FAPRA, has called on female Members of Parliament (MPs) to make full use of Constituency Offices as a means of bringing Parliament closer to the people.

Speaking during a meeting with all female Members of Parliament (MP) on Wednesday, 26th March, 2025, at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka. Speaker Mutti emphasised that the National Assembly of Zambia is the most decentralized institution in the country, with Constituency Offices serving as critical access points for citizen engagement.

THE FIRST DEPUTY SPEAKER CHALLENGES CHAIRPERSONS OF COMMITEES TO BE EFFECTIVE

The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Hon Malungo Chisangano, MP, has reminded Chairpersons of Committees and selected female members of Parliament, their responsibility for managing Committee meetings, information analysis and ultimately guiding the Committees to make good quality decisions and recommendations.

UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR CONFERS WITH DEPUTY SPEAKER ON HUMAN RIGHTS, FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION AND PRESS FREEDOM

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on freedom of expression and opinion, Ms. Irene Khan has called on the National Assembly of Zambia to support and promote the strengthening of freedom of opinion and expression in Zambia. 

Ms. Khan said on Wednesday 29th January,  2025 at Parliament Building when she paid a courtesy call on the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Hon. Malungo Chisangano as part of her continued interaction with various stakeholders on her visit to Zambia at the invitation of the government.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA DONATES FOODS AND ASSORTED ITEMS TO HOME OF HAPPINESS ORPHANAGE

As part of the activities of the National Assembly of Zambia in commemoration of this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, the first Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honorable MalungoChisangano, MP, on 3rd December 2024, led a delegation of staff of the National Assembly of Zambia in donating food and assorted items valued at over One Hundred Thousand Kwacha to Home of Happiness for Children with Disabilities in Foxdale, Chamba Valley Lusaka.
