As part of the activities of the National Assembly of Zambia in commemoration of this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, the first Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honorable MalungoChisangano, MP, on 3rd December 2024, led a delegation of staff of the National Assembly of Zambia in donating food and assorted items valued at over One Hundred Thousand Kwacha to Home of Happiness for Children with Disabilities in Foxdale, Chamba Valley Lusaka.

The Deputy Speaker said that the National Assembly was driven by the conviction of contributing in uplifting the lives of the marginalized in society.

“Beyond just participating in these commemorative activities, our coming is fundamentally driven by our convictions to contribute, however small a manner it may be, towards the well- being of you, our incredible children at this Home,” said speaker Chisangano.

Speaker Chisangano said that the Home of Happiness for children with disabilities which was established nine years ago, has evolved and maintained its resolve and philosophy of investing in children less privileged children.

“By according them an opportunity to thrive, the Home is investing in the future of the country. It is also gratifying to note that this Home has managed to integrate children with their families. This is no mean achievement, considering that most of this is through donations from well- wishers,” Speaker Chisangano said.

Speaker Chisangano also commended the Management of Home of Happiness for incorporating education in their programme which is yieldingpositive results.

“Children who were not able to go to school are now able to access education.Among the notable success stories is a story of a young girl who dropped out of school at 17years old, who has since come back and is in boarding School in grade nine. The girl is also the School Head Girl and is doing well in her academics,” she said.

Speaker Chisangano encouraged the Children of Home of Happiness to be hopeful for a better future by working hard and believing that their current conditions do not dictate their future.
