Hon. Dr. Charles Ayume from the Parliament of Uganda, has called on African parliaments to strengthen legislation and financing towards antimicrobial management to build resilient health systems and curb the rising threat of antimicrobial resistance.

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Rt Hon Dr Nelly B.K. Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA says sustainable and accountable health financing is key to attaining Universal Health Coverage in the African region

Dr Mutti noted that investment in health infrastructure, the workforce, innovation and emergency preparedness is more cost-effective than reactionary spending. 

She added that strong and equitable health systems are also essential for national development and stability.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt Hon. Dr. Nelly B.K. Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA, today attended the funeral church service for the late former Cabinet Minister, Dr. Mutumba Mainga Bull, who passed away on Friday, 13^th February, 2026.

Dr. Mutti joined the Republican President, Hakainde Hichilema, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, alongside the Chief Justice, Dr. Mumba Malila, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, other Government officials, family members and members of the public in paying their last respects to the late Dr. Bull.

The Speaker conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the National Assembly of Zambia and in her personal capacity.

Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Moses F. Moyo, MP, says the National Assembly is poised to deepen bilateral ties with Finland in trade and investment as part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation and promote sustainable development between the two countries.

The Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Moses Moyo, MP is leading the Electoral Observation Mission of the Forum of Parliaments of the Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) to Uganda following an invitation by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through the Electoral Commission (EC) to observe the January 15, General Elections in the country. 

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Nelly B. K. Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA, says the National Assembly remains committed to strengthening democratic participation by advancing reforms that support the increased inclusion of women, youths and persons with disabilities in Parliament.

She said such reforms are essential to improving representation and ensuring that the priorities of all citizens are reflected in national decision-making processes.

The National Assembly of Zambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cavendish University Zambia aimed at strengthening academic collaboration and professional development for Members of Parliament, staff and their immediate families.

Speaking during a Signing Ceremony held on Wednesday, 29^th October, 2025 at Parliament Buildings, the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs. Loveness M. Mayaka, said the MoU has come at a time when the National Assembly is establishing the Institute of Parliamentary Studies and Training (IPST).

Kabwe Member of Parliament, Mrs. Chrizoster Halwiindi Phiri, says Zambia remains committed to promoting women’s participation in public life and governance through strong legislative action and inclusive policymaking.

She said this at the ceremonial opening of the Seminar for Women Parliamentarians themed “Strengthening Cooperation Between Legislative Bodies and the Promotion of the Global Women’s Cause,” held in Beijing, China, on Sunday, 19^th October 2025, where she led the Zambian Parliamentary Delegation.

The Minister of Finance and National Planning, Honourable Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, on Friday, 26th September 2025, presented the 2026 National Budget to the National Assembly under the theme “Consolidating Economic and Social Gains towards a Prosperous, Resilient and Equitable Zambia.”

He said, the 2026 National Budget projects national expenditure of K253.1 billion, representing 27.4 percent of GDP. He further said Domestic revenues are expected to contribute K206.5 billion, complemented by K12.1 billion in grants and K34.5 billion in borrowing.
