Speaker Mutti Mourns Chibesakunda and Justice Mwenda

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Nelly B.K. Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA, today visited the funeral house of Mr. Chita Chushi Chibesakunda, who passed away on Sunday, 15th February, 2026. Mr. Chibesakunda was the husband to the Managing Director of Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO), Mrs. Mukwandi Chibesakunda.

The Speaker conveyed her condolences to the bereaved family on behalf of the National Assembly of Zambia and in her personal capacity.

Speaker Mutti described the death of Mr. Chibesakunda as a tragic loss not only to the family but also to all who had the privilege of knowing him and prayed that the Almighty God grants the family peace, strength and comfort during this difficult time.

Later, Speaker Mutti visited the funeral house of The Honourable Justice Dr. Winnie Sithole Mwenda, who passed away on Saturday, 14th February, 2026, where she signed the Book of Condolences and described her as a distinguished jurist and devoted servant of the nation.

The Speaker paid tribute to Justice Mwenda’s immense contribution to the development of Zambia’s jurisprudence and the strengthening of the rule of law.

“As a fellow member of the legal fraternity, the late Justice’s dedication, integrity and commitment to justice remain an inspiration to many,” she wrote.

Speaker Mutti further noted that Justice Mwenda will be remembered for her remarkable service to the nation and her distinguished career in the Judiciary. She conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the Mwenda family and the entire legal fraternity.
