Parliament Precincts Fumigated

The precincts of Parliament have today Monday, 20th July, 2020 been fumigated in an effort to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus. The fumigation exercise was conducted by the Association of the Indian Community in Zambia following a request from the Ministry of Health to fumigate the institution of Parliament. 

A ‘technological milestone’ for the CPA as it delivers its first ever virtual post-election seminar for newly elected Members of the Anguilla House of Assembly

Following its election on 29 June 2020, the newly elected Members of the House of Assembly of Anguilla will be recipients of a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Post-Election Seminar. The Seminar, which is the CPA’s longest running programme, will be delivered for the first-time virtually with panellists presenting from across the Commonwealth, due to travel restrictions in place during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Parliamentarians Deliberate on SRHR, HIV/AIDS and Governance

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia,  Rt Hon. Mr. Justice Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC., BA, FCIArb, MP has today 13th July, 2020 officially opened the two day Round Table Meeting between selected Members of Parliament and line Ministries under Phase two of the Sexual Reproductive Health, Rights, HIV/AIDS and Governance Project of 2019 to 2022 at Parliament Buildings.

SADC Parliamentary Forum Secretary General salutes parliamentarians

SADC Parliamentary  Forum Secretary General, Ms Boemo Sekgoma has applauded Parliaments as institutions, and Parliamentarians worldwide and in the SADC, for the commendable and selfless efforts made to redress the Covid-19 situation and the progressive work in ensuring that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are mainstreamed while other regional SADC objectives are also met.  She said this in a statement issued to mark the International Day of Parliamentarism which was commemorated on 30th June, 2020.

SPEAKER MATIBINI RULES ON THE POINT OF ORDER RAISED BY MR GARY NKOMBO, MP ON WHETHER THE HOUSE WAS IN ORDER TO DELIBERATE ON THE CONSTITUTION OF ZAMBIA (AMENDMENT) BILL N.A.B. NO.10 OF 2019 WHICH CONTAINED A CLAUSE WHICH WAS THE SUBJECT OF LITIGATION

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Right Hon. Mr. Justice Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC., BA, FCIArb, MP on Tuesday 23rd June, 2020, made a Ruling on a Point of Order raised by Mr Gary G Nkombo, MP on whether the House was in order to deliberate on the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bill N.A.B. No.10 of 2019 which contained a clause which was the subject of litigation in the matter of Dipak Patel and the Minister of Finance and the Attorney General.

Government Chief Whip Hon. Brian Mundubile, MP Announces Guidelines for the Sitting of Parliament during the Coronavirus Period

Government Chief Whip Hon. Brian Mundubile, MP has announced guidelines for the sitting of Parliament during the coronavirus period. This was during a press briefing held at parliament buildings on Tuesday, 16th June, 2020. Among the guidelines announced by Hon. Mundubile is the reduction in sitting hours, Parliament will during the coronavirus period sit from 14:30 hours to 17:00 hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and from 09:00 hours to 12:00 hours on Fridays.

New Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) appointed

The Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has appointed a new Secretary-General for the Association. Stephen Twigg will become the CPA Secretary-General of one of the oldest established organisations in the Commonwealth.

Parliament to resume Sitting on 9th June, 2020

Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Cecilia N Mbewe has issued a statement that the Fourth Session of the Twelfth National Assembly, which adjourned Sine die on Wednesday, 18th March, 2020, will resume on Tuesday, 9th June, 2020 at 1430 Hours.

CPA Toolkit for Commonwealth Parliaments and Legislatures on the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic and delivering parliamentary democracy

The outbreak of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) and its subsequent spread as a global pandemic that has rapidly spread to at least 180 countries, has consequently plunged many Parliaments and Legislatures across the world into a state of emergency. Commonwealth Parliaments and Parliamentarians are grappling with many different issues both to implement the emergency health measures during this global pandemic while at the same time looking at new ways to conduct debates, scrutinise and pass legislation, hold parliamentary committees and question the actions of their governments.

CHIKANKATA HOSTS NAZ MADALAS

The National Assembly of Zambia (NAZ) Madalas football team was held to a scoreless game by Chikankata Mission Madalas on Saturday, 14th March, 2020.  The game was hosted by Chikankata Member of Parliament, Mr Kabwe Mwiinga at the Chikankata High School football ground.
