Speaker Urges MPs to embrace Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt. Hon Mr Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, BA, FCIArb, MP has observed that gender inequality is a serious global challenge with half of the world’s population struggling to eliminate both the obvious and invisible barriers of gender equality.

Parliament TV now on DSTV and GOTV

The National Assembly of Zambia in partnership with Multi Choice Group Limited has launched Parliament TV on DSTV channel 272 and GOTV channel 100.  The two Channels were virtually launched on Thursday, 3rd September, 2020 by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Rt. Hon Mr Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, BA, FCIArb, MP.

CPA Executive Committee approves the postponement of annual gathering of Commonwealth Parliamentarians at 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Canada

The CPA Executive Committee, meeting virtually from 19-22 August 2020, has approved the postponement of the 65th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) due to be hosted by the CPA Canada Region in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in January 2021.


The decision to postpone the CPA annual conference was the result of ongoing travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 global pandemic and the quarantine restrictions in place between different countries. The CPC will now be postponed to a future date in August 2021.

CPA Executive Committee hold virtual meeting to address key governance issues for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association

The Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) has held its first fully virtual meeting from 19 to 22 August 2020 chaired by the Chairperson of the Executive Committee, Hon. Emilia Monjowa Lifaka, MP, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Cameroon. The CPA Executive Committee represents the nine regions of the CPA - Africa; Asia; Australia; British Islands and Mediterranean; Canada; Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic; India; Pacific; South-East Asia.

Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB) important in responding to women’s priorities, Cecilia Mbewe

Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Cecilia N Mbewe says the Gender Responsive Planning and Budgeting (GRPB) is an important activity that helps to track the way that national budgets respond to women’s priorities and the way Governments use funds to among other things, reduce poverty, promote gender equality, reverse the spread of HIV and lower the rates of maternal and child mortality.

Speaking when the newly elected President of the Association, Mr Abyudi Shonga, SC, paid a courtesy call on him, on Wednesday, 5th August, 2020, Dr Matibini stressed the need for the Association to get more involved in the work of Parliament.

Nexus between Human Rights and Covid-19 takes centre stage as PAP intensifies consultations on the impact of the pandemic in Africa

Five MPs test positive from the COVID-19 mass testing exercise conducted at Parliament Buildings

The Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, Her Honour Mrs Inonge M. Wina, MP and the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia the Rt. Hon. Mr Justice Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC., BA, FCIArb, MP led Members of Parliament in a mass testing exercise for Coronavirus at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020.

From the mass testing exercise, which included members of staff and non-staff, fifteen (15) tested positive for Covid-19 of which five (05) are Members of Parliament, five (05) members of staff and five (05) non-staff.
