FORMER CLERK OF NAZ, CHIBESAKUNDA DIES

Former Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia, Mr. Mwelwa Ng’ona Chibesakunda has passed away.  Mr Chibesakunda who served as Clerk from 1968 to 1990 and 1991 to 2002 died on Tuesday, 25th February, 2020 at the age of 80 years in South Africa where he was undergoing treatment.

CO-OPERATION WITH ZAMBIA, ONE OF OUR IMPORTANT PRIORITIES, MATVIENKO

The Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Her Excellency Mrs Valentina Matvienko has said that co-operation with Zambia is one of Russia’s important priorities.  Speaking during the address to the National Assembly of Zambia on Tuesday, 18th February, 2020, Mrs Matvienko said Zambia enjoys a long history of co-operation with the Russian Federation, with the Soviet Union being the first country to recognise Zambia’s independence.

Climate Change and Small States: Parliamentarian’s Toolkit launched by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association

The contemporary challenge from climate change is a global concern, its impacts touching every nation on earth. Despite contributing least to global greenhouse gas emissions, it is however, the small states and territories of the Commonwealth and beyond who will suffer disproportionately from its effects.

THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE AND HEALTH RIGHTS (SRHR), HIV AND AIDS AND GOVERNANCE PHASE II PROJECT (2019-2022)

The National Assembly of Zambia (NAZ) has commenced the implementation of phase II of the Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), HIV and AIDS and Governance Project. Phase II for the project will run from 2019 to 2022, with support from the Southern African Development Community Parliamentary Forum (SADCPF). This follows the successful implementation of project activities under Phase I of the SRHR, HIV and AIDS and Governance Project from 2014 to 2018. In phase one the project worked closely with a National Working Group (NWG).

MPS OF THE ZAMBIA-CHINA PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDSHIP GROUP CONFER WITH THE VISITING VICE-CHAIRMAN OF ALL CHINA FEDERATION OF RETURNED OVERSEAS CHINESE

Hon Maxas Ngonga, MP, Chairperson of the Zambia-China Parliamentary Friendship Group led a Delegation of Members of Parliament on Wednesday, 4th December, 2019 to meet a Delegation led by Mr Yilong Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Federation of All-China Returned Overseas Chinese at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Zambia in Lusaka. Present at the meeting was His Excellency Mr Li Jie, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Zambia.

Speaker Green-lights Set-up of the Zambian Chapter of APNODE

On 11 November 2019, the Right Hon. Mr. Justice Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC., BA, FCIArb, MP Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia approved the setting up of the Zambian Chapter of the African Parliamentarian Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE). The Member of Parliament for Kapiri Mposhi Constituency, Mr. Stanley Kakubo, MP was appointed as Interim Chairperson and the Parliamentary Reforms Programme (PRP)-Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Department in the Office of the Clerk, will serve as the Secretariat.

East Africa Regional Caucus to consult on AU legal instruments

A consultative meeting of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) East African Regional Caucus will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme: Building regional consensus on AU legal instruments and promoting the ratification of the protocol to the constitutive act of the Pan-African parliament: engaging civil society organizations in the promotion of AU legal instruments, from 18 to 21 November 2019.

Parliamentarians adopt Urgent Resolutions on Climate Change

The 38th Session of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and European Union (EU) Joint Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU JPA), which was held from 14th to 21st November, 2019, in Kigali, Rwanda has adopted urgent resolutions on “challenges addressed at the Nations Climate Change Conference COP25” and on the “threat of climate change to fisheries and aquaculture.” This is in the wake of the up-coming COP25 to be held in December, 2019, in Madrid, Spain, during which outstanding issues in the Katowice Climate Package, including provisions under Article 6 of
