Speaker Mutti Mourns Former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt Hon. Nelly B.K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA today, 14th August, 2024, visited the funeral house of Former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, who passed away yesterday, 13th August 2024, at Mina Soko Military Hospital. Mrs. Maureen Mwanawasa was the wife of the Late 3rd Republican President, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa.

NAZ Exhibits at the 96th Agriculture and Commercial Show

The National Assembly of Zambia participated in the 96th Agriculture and Commercial Show held from Wednesday, 31st July to Monday, 5th August, 2024, at the Showgrounds, in Lusaka.

The event which was held under the theme, “Creating a Competitive Future,” highlighted the National Assembly’s alignment with the theme, underscoring the importance of collaboration and innovation in driving the nation's economic growth.

Members of Parliament Urged to Combat Human-Wildlife Conflict

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt Hon Nelly B K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to take an active role in combating the escalating human-wildlife conflicts in Zambia.

Speaker Mutti said MPs must be instrumental in raising public awareness, mobilizing community action and influence policy reforms to address the issue effectively.

President Ndayishimiye Calls on Zambia for Intensified Trade and Investment Ties

Visiting Burundian President, Evariste Ndayishimiye has called on Zambia to intensify trade and investment relations between the two nations. He made this appeal while addressing the National Assembly of Zambia on Friday, 2nd August, 2024, at Parliament Buildings.

President Ndayishimiye stated that Zambia and Burundi are endowed with abundant human and natural resources, which could significantly contribute to the developmental goals of both nations.

ZAMBIA SIGNS THE AGREEMENT AMENDING THE SADC TREATY ON THE TRANSFORMATION OF THE SADC PARLIAMENTARY FORUM INTO A REGIONAL PARLIAMENT

The Republic of Zambia has signed the Agreement Amending the SADC Treaty on the transformation of the SADC Parliamentary Forum into a Regional Parliament in Luanda, Angola.  The Treaty was signed on 2nd July, 2024 by the sidelines of the ongoing 55th SADC Parliamentary Forum Plenary Assembly by Honourable Princess Kasune, MP, Minister of Justice, who was designated by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr Hakainde Hichilema, pursuant to Article 92 (1) of the Constitution of Zambia , Chapter 1 of the Laws of Zambia.

Minister of Finance proposes K41.9 billion supplementary budget

Minister of Finance and National Planning Hon. Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane has recommended a K 41.9 billion supplementary budget to the National Assembly of Zambia mostly dedicated to government’s response interventions to the drought.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA HOSTS OLYMPIC MOVEMENT SYMPOSIUM

The National Assembly of Zambia hosted an international symposium on the Olympic Movement, marking the first-ever planting of an olive tree at a Parliament in Africa.

The ceremony, led by the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt Hon Nelly B.K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA took place on Thursday 13th June, 2024 at the Parliament buildings.

Speaker Mutti, said the olive tree, originating from Archaia, Olympia in Greece, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, represents a significant gesture of international solidarity symbolizing peace respect, victory and honour.

Speaker Mutti Urges EAZ to Enhance Research and Strengthen Economic Contributions

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt Hon Nelly B.K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA has urged the Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) to fulfill its role as a professional body by providing insights to the government and other institutions, including the National Assembly, on how to improve the country’s economic performance.

She said this when the newly elected Economic Association of Zambia Board paid a courtesy call on her on Monday, 10th June, 2024, at Parliament Buildings.
