SPEAKER SIGNS UP THE HEFORSHE CAMPAIGN

Speaker of the National Assembly Rt. Honourable Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, MP on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2017 signed up the Heforshe Campaign at Parliament Buildings. The Heforshe campaign is a global solidarity movement which was started by the United Nations Women (UN Women) and launched by the United Nations Secretary General in September 2014 in order to get different stakeholders, particularly men, involved in the fight for gender equality.

National Assembly of Zambia to Debate Pan African Parliament Affairs

First Deputy Speaker, Hon. Catherine Namugala says it is important for the National Assembly of Zambia (NAZ) to begin debating issues that emanate from the Pan African Parliament (PAP) to which NAZ is a member parliament. She said this during a courtesy call on her by the visiting President of the Pan African Parliament Hon. Roger Nkodo Dang at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday 13th September, 2017.

National Assembly “visits” Nkeyema

Nkeyema Parliamentary constituency became a hive of activity on Saturday, 9th September, 2017, when the National Assembly staff paid a visit to that area to share knowledge on the roles of the Member of Parliament and the role of the constituency office.  


The team from the National Assembly visited Nkeyema to mobilize and win the interest of the public to participate in parliamentary activities. The team also went to sensitise the people on the presence and use of the constituency office in the area.

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SOLICITS MEDIA SUPPORT IN COMMUNICATION STRATEGY IMPLEMENTATION

Acting Clerk of the National Assembly Mrs Cecilia Mbewe has called on the media to support the National Assembly of Zambia in the implementation of the Communication Strategy for the institution if it is to succeed.  Mrs Mbewe said that the media is strategic in the implementation of the programme hence the need to engage them and solicit for support early before the programme is rolled out.

Marking the 2017 International Day of Democracy (IDD) on 15 September, the IPU is celebrating two important milestones: the 10th anniversary of the IDD and the 20th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Democracy. The ZIM/ZAM Senior Parliamentary Staff Seminar was this year held from 23rd to 25th August, 2017, at Kingdom Hotel, Victoria Falls town, Zimbabwe, under the theme: ‘Results With Resolve: From Rhetoric To Impact In Parliamentary Administration’ Honourable Ambassador Cain N G Mathema, Senator, Minister of State – Matabeleland North Province, said in his keynote address to the staff that the idea of the Staff Seminar was coined by the Parliaments of Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe in the late 1990’s.

International Climate Change expert urges Caribbean Parliamentarians to lead the fight against global warming

 

During the first Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Lecture for the CPA Caribbean, Americas and Atlantic (CAA) Region, the Head of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Unit of the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Kishan Kumarsingh, stressed the importance of implementing the Paris Accord on Climate Change at a national level and how Speakers and Presiding Officers in the Caribbean Region can take the lead.

The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Hon Catherine Namugala, MP has applauded the Chinese Government for its support to the National Assembly of Zambia. She said this when the Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) for Guangdong Province, His Excellency, Hon Wang Rong paid a courtesy call on her at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, 17th August 2017.

A two-day post-election seminar was held by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) at the Legislative Assembly of the Cayman Islands for newly elected and returning Members to provide training and guidance to the Legislature in all aspects of good parliamentary practice.
