THE HON SPEAKER DELIVERS A HISTORICAL SPEECH TO THE RUSSIAN PARLIAMENT UPPER HOUSE

The Hon Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Justice Dr.Patrick Matibini, SC, FCIARB, MP, delivered a speech to the Plenary Session of the Council of Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russia Federation on Wednesday, 18th April, 2018. This was the highlight of the Hon Speaker’s benchmark visit from 15th to 20th April, 2018 to the Russian Parliament to exchange views on best parliamentary practices.

IPU condemns threats to parliamentary democracy

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) expressed serious concerns about the scale and type of alleged human rights violations of parliamentarians in Cambodia, the Maldives, Turkey and Venezuela with the effect of jeopardizing parliamentary democracy in these countries.

The Mid Year Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Executive Committee was held at Hilton Resort and Spa Hotel, Flic en Flac, Mauritius from 20th to 25th of March 2018.

This is the Executive Committee Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) that exists and works in tandem with the entire CPA in order to develop, promote and support Commonwealth Parliamentarians and parliamentary staff to identify benchmarks of good governance and to implement the enduring values of the Commonwealth.

24th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC)

The 24th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) was officially opened by His Excellency Mr Danny Faure, President of the Republic of the Seychelles on Tuesday, 9th January, 2018 at the Savoy Hotel in Seychelles. He stated that, "this gathering provides an important forum for the sharing of experiences, collaboration and partnership across national parliaments of all independent sovereign states of the Commonwealth.

Parliament of Australia re-joins Commonwealth Parliamentary Association membership at 63rd CPC

It is announced that the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia will be rejoining the membership of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) from 1 January 2018. The 63rd CPA General Assembly, meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh at the 63rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, approved the application from the Parliament of Australia to reconstitute the Commonwealth of Australia Branch of the CPA following their application to re-join the CPA.
