Ms Moono Lubezhi, MP elected as CPA Zambia Branch Representative

Namwala Member of Parliament, Ms Moono Lubezhi, has been elected as the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zambia Branch Representative.  Ms Lubezhi was unanimously elected at the CPA Zambia Branch Executive Committee meeting held at Parliament Buildings on Thursday, 25th June 2015.

National Assembly of Zambia receives Support from China

The National Assembly of Zambia recently received office equipment from the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China as a friendly gesture. The equipment was officially handed over to the National Assembly, by the Chinese Ambassador to Zambia H.E. Mr. Yang Youming at a special handover ceremony held at Parliament Buildings, on Monday 22nd June, 2015.

A Solidarity trip in Somalia

A delegation of twelve persons, among which parliamentarians, members of civil and youth organisations and officials from the Ministry of Gender and Human Rights including the Minister of Gender and Human Rights H.E. Sahra Ali Samantar, participated in a Solidarity trip to Adado, in the central Galguduud region of Somalia, on 6 June 2015.

Attack on Afghan Parliament an assault on democracy

Parliament Joins Hands With NAC in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Doris K Mwiinga, has revealed that National Assembly has partnered with the National AIDS Council (NAC) in the implementation of the SADC protocol on Health. This came to light during a meeting on HIV/AIDS sustainable financing held at Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, 17th June, 2015. 

She explained that through this Protocol, the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) had set up a desk to work hand in hand with the National AIDS Council to spearhead the fight against HIV/AIDS in Zambia.

The National Assembly of Zambia Resumes Sitting

The Fourth Session of the Eleventh National Assembly, which adjourned sittings on Thursday 26th March 2015, resumes sittings today, Tuesday 16th June 2015 for the End of Year Meeting which runs between the months of June and July. This End of Year Meeting is expected to discuss a number of issues during its course.

IPU urges action on eighth anniversary of Lebanese MP’s murder

Geneva, 12 June 2015

IPU has renewed its call to the Lebanese authorities to make every effort to bring the killers of Lebanese MP Walid Eido to justice, on the eighth anniversary of his murder.

Walid Eido was killed in a car bomb attack in Beirut on 13 June 2007.  He was one of a number of high-profile figures targeted in a wave of attacks following the killing of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in 2005. Three other MPs - Gibran Tueni, Pierre Gemayel and Antoine Ghanem were also murdered. None of the killers has been caught.
