The National Assembly of Zambia, on Thursday 30th July, 2015, launched its 2015 to 2019 Strategic Plan at the Parliament Buildings; the Strategic Plan is the document that will inform the direction of National Assembly for the next five (5) years.

The Rt Hon Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia welcomed Members of the Nigeria National Assembly Service Commission to the Zambian Parliament today, Wednesday 29th July, 2015 at National Assembly Buildings.

Empower Young People - Speaker

Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Justice, Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, MP has said young people should be empowered in order for them to be active participants in the developmental agenda of the country.

He said this at the 2nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zambia Branch Local Seminar held at the Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, 29th July, 2015.   The Hon. Mr Speaker further said the Local Seminar provided an opportunity for Members of Parliament to share ideas on matters of common interest in the Commonwealth.

Parliamentary Shepolopolo silences Zim MPs

The Zambian Parliamentary Netball Team on Saturday, 25th July, 2015 beat their Zimbabwe counterparts to a tune of 13-11.  
The games that were played in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe saw the Zambian MPs dominate the first two quarters with Zimbabwe almost recovering in the third quarter.  However, the unbeatable Shepolopolo who were captained by Hon Annie Chungu dominated the fourth quarter with a resounding victory of 13-11.

SADC Governments must lead in Mobilization of domestic funding for HIV/AIDS - Speaker

Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, MP has said there is urgent need for SADC Governments to lead in the mobilization of domestic funding for HIV and AIDS and strengthening health care systems to roll out HIV prevention, treatment, care and support strategies.

Dr Matibini said this during an orientation workshop for Members of Parliament on the Implementation of Regional, Continental and International Commitments on HIV/AIDS Financing Projectswhich was held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lusaka on 22ndJuly, 2015.

"Seize the opportunity" urges Commonwealth at landmark Addis Ababa summit

The Commonwealth has urged the international community to “seize the opportunity” to end extreme poverty at a landmark conference on development finance in Ethiopia.
Commonwealth Deputy Secretary-General Deodat Maharaj addressed the plenary session of the International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa on 16 July 2015 with a call for a global framework that is “inclusive, transformative and universal”.

Parley receives three new Members of Parliament

The National Assembly of Zambia received three (3) new Members of Parliament following the by-elections that were held in three (3) constituencies on 30th June, 2015, in Mulobezi, Malambo and Petauke Central.

The three seats fell vacant after High Court nullifications.  The Mulobezi  and Malambo seats were scooped by Ms Patricia Mambeya M.  Mulasikwanda and Mr Jacob Shuma, respectively, while the Petauke Central seat was retained by Ms Dora Siliya. All the Members are from the ruling Patriotic Front Party.

UNDP committed to supporting MPs in their legislative function

The United Nations Development Progaramme (UNDP) Administrator Ms Helen Clark has reaffirmed the UNDP support to the National Assembly and MPs in particular in order for them to effectively carry out their legislative function. She made the reaffirmation during a meeting with selected Chairpersons of Parliamentary Committees that was held at Parliament Buildings on Thursday 16th July, 2015.
