CPAPD Vice President commends Zambia’s Parliamentary Reform Programme

Vice President of the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament (CPAPD), His Excellency Mr. Yu Hongjun, has commended the National Assembly of Zambia for the Parliamentary Reform Programme that it has embarked on.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the First and Second Deputy Speakers of the National Assembly of Zambia on Monday, 10th April 2017, at Parliament Buildings, His Excellency, Mr Yu Hongjun said he was impressed with the National Assembly of Zambia’s implementation of Parliamentary Reforms and that china can learn from it. He added that, reaching out to the constituents requires an ambitious reform programme such as the one Zambia has, which ensures that the people‘s participation in the activities of Parliament is enhanced. In this regard, he cited the establishment of Constituency Offices, Parliament radio and a dedicated channel for televising Parliamentary debates.  

His Excellency Mr. Yu Hongjun reiterated the continued bilateral relations between Zambia and China, and added that this was renewed by the recent visit to China by His Excellency Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia.

And First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Hon Catherine Namugala, MP thanked the CPAPD Vice President for the assistance that China has continued rendering to the National Assembly of Zambia. She said it was gratifying that Zambia has continued enjoying warm and cordial relations with China since Zambia’s pre-independence days. She added that in 2011, His Excellency, Mr. Abudul’ahat Adbulrixit, the then Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), participated in the National Assembly Media and Visitors Center ground breaking ceremony at Parliament Buildings.

The meeting was also attended by the Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Hon Mwimba Malama, MP.
