Bujumbura, Burundi, August 15, 2016: The Executive Secretariat of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) learnt with great shock and dismay of the massacre of more than 30 Men, women and children carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an armed group operating in Beni, North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The ICGLR Executive Secretariat condemns in the strongest terms the inadmissible act of killing innocent civilians carried out by this barbaric armed group, which is hindering the population from living in peace and stability.
The ICGLR Executive Secretary Ambassador Zachary Muburi-Muita, wishes to express his heartfelt sympathy and condolences and that of the entire Executive Secretariat to His Excellency President Joseph Kabila and through him the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as the families and friends of those who lost their loved ones.
ICGLR calls upon the DRC Government, MONUSCO and the international community to provide assistance to the victims of massacre as well as doing all possible towards the neutralisation of all armed groups in Eastern DRC.
