NAZ AND TEXILA AMERICAN UNIVERSITY CONFER ON HEALTH PARTNERSHIPS

The First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Honourable Malungo Chisangano has welcomed Texila American University’s call to work with the Committee for Health and Community development.

Speaking when she met founder and president of the University Mr Saju Bhaskar and Vice President Prof Ajah Kumar Poddar on Wednesday 22nd January 2025, during a courtesy call in the Amusaa Mwanamwambwa Committee Room, The Speaker appreciated the role that the university plays in advancing the medical field.

The Speaker also appealed to the university to create literacy programmes that can be implemented nationwide.

“It is my sincere hope that your institution would take interest in activities and perhaps take an initiative to roll out literacy awareness programmes to all our 156 constituencies as part of your cooperate social responsibility,” she said.

The university president said they have placed premium on offering programs that have seen students from beyond the southern region coming to study in Zambia. He added that this one of the several ways Texila is contributing to the Zambia’s economy.

“When international students come into the country, they come in, they bring in forex in terms of their spending, of tuition fees, living in the economy. And we believe that every international student that comes into the country spends not less than $10,000 into the economy.”

The university requested the National Assembly to identify “skill gaps” that may be of need.

In response, The Speaker stated that, “there is a Committee for Health and Community Development that are usually doing a lot of activities in line with health. I think that is the most appropriate committee you can actually work together.”

Prof Ajay Kumar Poddar explained that the university has been using advanced information technology to deliver programs and is considering upgrading to artificial intelligence. “This year, the university has already taken and conceived the idea of upgrading their ultra-modern technologies into the AI driven enabled platform. So, we will be bringing all those things. And…we are starting a school of literacy.”
