The Metrology Bill, 2017

The objects of this Bill are to -

(a) continue the existence of the Zambia Weights and Measures Agency, rename it as the Zambia Metrology Agency and re-define its functions;

(b) establish the Board of the Agency and provide for its functions;

(c) provide for the designations, keepiing and maintenance of national measurement stadards;

(d) provide for the use of measurement units of the International Systems Units and other untis;

(e) provide for consumer protection, health, safety and environmental management through legal metrology measures;

IPU CONCERNED ABOUT ONGOING EFFORTS TO SILENCE MPS

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has again expressed concern about continued human rights violations against MPs worldwide and the lack of respect for their parliamentary immunity.

During its January 2017 session, IPU’s Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians adopted decisions on the cases of 227 MPs from 16 countries. Over 100 MPs are from just three countries, Malaysia, Nicaragua
and Turkey.

European Union Financed Support to The National Assembly Project trains Members of The Committee on Local Governance, Housing And Chiefs’ Affairs on The Housing Situation In Zambia

The Chairperson of the Committee on Local Governance, Housing and Chiefs Affairs, Hon Maxwell Kabanda, MP, officially opened a two-day’s workshop which was held from 26th to 27th January at Protea Hotel Lusaka Tower, Lusaka. This workshop was organized by the European Union Support to the National Assembly Project team as one of their key interventions to enhance the capacity of four selected Committees of Parliament in the area of Public Finance Management.
