The National Assembly of Zambia held its first ever knowledge exchange workshop which brought together current and former presiding officers including the Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe and the former Speaker of Uganda.

The workshop which was organised under the auspices of the newly established Institute for Parliamentary Studies and Training (IPST), was aimed at sharing experiences among current and former presiding officers to ensure effective and efficient conduct of business in Parliament.

The National Assembly of Zambia, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and BBC Media Action, organized a two-day pioneering media training workshop in Chipata, Eastern Province. This is in a bid to enhance accurate and factual media coverage of Parliamentary proceedings and also deepen the understanding of the legislative process among journalists.

The National Assembly of Zambia commemorated 100 years of existence on Wednesday 22nd May 2024. 

Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti says despite some challenges, Zambia’s Parliament has become a cornerstone of democracy and a central institution through which the will of the people is expressed. 

During the ceremony,  Speaker Mutti announced that effective next year, May 23rd will be commemorated as Parliament Day annually.
