The 56th Plenary Assembly Session of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF) was hosted by the Parliament of the Republic of Zambia from 6th to 15th December 2024 at the Radisson Blu Hotel and Resort in Livingstone, Zambia, under the theme: “Leveraging Technology and Innovation for Smart, Inclusive and Responsive Parliaments in the SADC Region. ”

Day three of the 56th SADC Plenary Assembly is looking at motion of adoption of reports of the Executive Committee on; Financial Matters, policy and administrative matters and presentation of Country Reports on implementation of previous Plenary Assembly

SADC REGION URGED TO ADOPT DIGITAL IDENTITY

SMART Zambia’s National coordinator Mr PERCY CHINYAMA has advised parliamentarians in Southern Africa to collaborate and lobby for a digital identity for their citizens. 

This digital identity would replace the traditional passport, making it easier for people to move across the region.

He emphasized that a digital identity for the region can be embedded with personal information that can easily be accessed when needed at any cross point among the Southern African Development Community (SADC) members.

HON CHISANGANO CALLS FOR BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF GMOS AMONG MPS

First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Malungo Chisangano, MP, has called on Members of Parliament to deepen their understanding of Zambia’s biosafety policies and the status of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). “By fostering a deeper understanding of these regulations, Zambia can establish itself as a leader in promoting safe and responsible biotechnological advancements”.

ZAMBIA, BURUNDI FORGE TIES THROUGH PARLIAMENTARY DIPLOMACY

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, Honourable Nelly B.K Mutti, SC, MP, FAPRA says Zambia and Burundi’s strengthened ties are a testament to the power of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering regional cooperation.

She said this when Burundi’s Ambassador to Zambia, Evelyne Butoyi paid a courtesy call on her on Monday, 2nd December, 2024 at Parliament Buildings.
