Members of Parliament Elect the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), Zambia Branch Executive Committee

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zambia Branch had its first Annual General Meeting on Thursday 10th November, 2016, at Parliament Buildings.
During the meeting Rt Hon Justice, Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC, MCIArb, MP who is the president of the CPA  Zambia Branch said the CPA was founded in 1911 as the Empire Parliamentary Association and its affairs were administered by the United Kingdom Branch. The Association later evolved and in 1948, it adopted its present name the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The CPA changed its rules to enable all member Branches to participate in the Association’s management, and established a separate secretariat to manage its affairs. 
The speaker encouraged the Honourable Members of parliament to elect an executive committee with a balanced political and gender representation.
The nominations for the CPA Executive Committee were as follows:

7. Executive Committee Member V Mr Jamba Machila, MP
Ms Princess Kasune, MP
The Honorary Secretary / Treasurer who was the returning officer declared Mr Mwansa Mbulakulima, MP, Vice President I, who was unopposed, Ms Elizabeth Phiri, MP, Vice President II, who was also unopposed,Mr Listed N Tembo, MP, Executive Committee Member I who won by 79 votes out of 123 votes cast, Ms Doreen Mwape, MP,Executive Committee Member II who won by 79 votes out of 102 votes casts ,Mr Anthony Kasandwe, MP, Executive Committee member  III who was unopposed, Mr Chabi Jewis,MP,Executive Member IV who as well was unopposed and Mr Jamba Machila, MP, Executive Member V who won by 80 Votes out of 122 votes cast.
The newly elected Members will serve in the Executive Committee for a period of two and a half years.
The CPA Zambia Branch endeavours to ensure the attainment of the objectives of the CPA which are to promote knowledge and education in the social, economic, cultural constitutional and legislative systems within a parliamentary democratic framework with particular reference to countries of the Commonwealth of Nations and to countries outside the Commonwealth having close historical and parliamentary associations with it.
The CPA is composed of over 180 Branches formed in Legislatures in Commonwealth countries which subscribe to parliamentary democracy.
