** IPU’s 140th General Assembly session concludes

His Excellency Ahmed bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud yesterday said Qatar proud of the international appreciation for hosting one of the most successful of IPU and the number of participants in the meetings. Al Mahamoud pointed out that these appreciations and praises expresses the confidence of the member of the Union on the State of Qatar, its Amir, government and people.

Al Mahmoud stressed that as president of the General Assembly, he will do as much as he can to achieve what was agreed on during the meetings of the General Assembly in Qatar in cooperation with the President and Secretary General of the Union.

He added, for the first time, speakers of parliaments held close meeting up on an initiative of the President to discuss a number of issues that help the parliamentary work. Speakers were agreed that there is an opportunity for parliaments to discuss many issues and ideas related to the IPU, which will represents a platform for parliament works in the coming period.

PARLIAMENTARIANS VITAL IN PROMOTING PEACE, SECURITY AND RULE OF LAW

Parliamentarians have been called upon to actively assume their rightful position as the platforms that are uniquely designed and mandated to educate their citizenry on how best to address contentious issues and relationships.

#IPU140 Assembly in Doha to focus on education, gender equality and counter-terrorism

Geneva, Monday 1 April. For immediate release
Over 1600 parliamentarians, UN partners and experts from around the world will meet in Doha, Qatar, for the 140th IPU Assembly from 6 to 10 April. Under the overarching theme of education for peace, the Assembly will also consider ways in which parliaments can boost gender equality- particularly in the region, take measures to counter terrorism, promote human rights and invest in renewable energy.

The Sales Tax Bill, 2019

The objects of this Bill are to—

(a) introduce a sales tax on the supply of goods in the Republic on manufacturers, producers, distributors, wholesalers, and retailers and the importers of goods into the Republic;

(b) impose a sales tax on the supply of services in the Republic by service providers and importers of services into the Republic;

(c) exempt certain supplies, imports and exports of goods and services from sales tax;

(d) provide for the registration and de-registration of taxable suppliers;

The Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2019

The object of this Bill is to amend the Income Tax Act, so as to revise the turnover tax threshold from eight hundred thousand kwacha per annum to five hundred thousand kwacha per annum
