ENHANCE CONSTITUENCY OFFICE VISIBILITY - SPEAKER MUTTI

Speaker of the National Assembly has called for the enhanced visibility of the constituency offices through the implementation of programmes and projects.

 

The Rt Hon Madam Mutti was speaking when she arrived in Mongu on Monday, 24th January 2022 on the first leg of the countrywide familiarization tours which she intends to undertake in all the 156 constituencies in the country in the next few years. The tours are intended to familiarize the Hon Speaker and other Presiding Officers of the National Assembly on the work and operations of the constituency offices.

The Hon Madam Speaker challenged the Constituency Offices Staff to take centre stage in enhancing accountability by citizens in the implementation of the Constituency Development Funds projects and therefore bring Parliament closer to the people. She said that the increased CDF from K1.6m to K25.7m will be key in the enhancement of the visibility in the offices through the programmes to be implemented in the constituencies across the country. The Rt Honorable Speaker urged the Constituency Staff to be the bridge between the citizens in the constituencies and the Member of Parliament and ensure that programmes and projects are implemented and the constituents take ownership and are kept abreast of all the developments in their respective constituencies.

She said that Constituency offices will anchor the dissemination and receive the concerns of the people. She also added that Constituency Offices are key in the decentralization process and an epitome of democracy and good governance in the country.

The Hon Madam Speaker will interact with Constituency office staff and Members of Parliament in the respective constituencies she is expected to visit. She is scheduled to visit nearly all the 19 constituencies in the Western province except a few which may not be easily reachable at this time of the year.  Some of the constituencies the Hon Madam Speaker will visit include Mongu Central, Luena, Sesheke, Sioma, Senanga, Nalolo, Kalabo Central, Liuwa, Nkeyema, Kaoma Central amongst the many.

The Rt Hon Mutti, MP is accompanied by the Deputy Clerk (Administration) and other senior staff of the National Assembly.
