The CPA Africa is key to the Implementation of the Agenda 2063 and the SDGs- Says Rt Hon Mr Speaker

The Rt. Hon. Mr Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC., FCIArb, BA, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia has said that the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region is key to the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the universally accepted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He noted that, if well implemented, the Agenda 2063 and the SDGs can be the basis for Africa’s long term socio-economic and integrative transformation, and that the CPA Africa region stands at a vantage point and can play a crucial role in actualizing the two policy documents.

In this regard, the Rt Hon Mr Speaker urged the CPA Africa Region to use the Agenda 2063 and the SDGs as contexts within which it can pursue its aims and objectives, as well as respond to the needs and aspirations of the African populace in an ever changing world.

The Rt. Hon. Mr Justice Dr Patrick Matibini, SC., FCIArb, BA, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia said this during the official opening of the 76 th Executive Committee Meeting of the CPA Africa Region, on Saturday, 9 th March, 2019, at Avani Victoria Falls Resort, Livingstone.

Speaking at the same function, the CPA Africa Region Executive Committee Chairperson, Rt. Hon. Justin B.N. Muturi, MP, Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya commended Zambia for successfully hosting the meeting. He observed that the meeting would provide an opportunity for the Executive Committee to discuss issues affecting people in the Region, and enhance the strategic direction of the CPA in the ensuing years. He, therefore, called upon all Members to actively participate and contribute effectively to the discussions during the course of the meeting.

At the same occasion, Hon Mwansa Mbulakulima, MP, was elected as the Vice Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the CPA Africa Region. This means that Zambia now holds a position in the Executive Committee of the CPA Africa Region.

The CPA Africa Region is an Association of Parliaments and Legislatures whose aims are to promote knowledge of the constitutional, legislative, economic, social and cultural aspects of parliamentary democracy, with particular reference to the African countries within the Commonwealth. The Executive Committee is the governing body
of the CPA Africa Region.
