The Rt. Hon. Juctice Dr. Patrick Matibini, SC, FCIArb, MP has continued his countrywide tour of constituency offices, with his most recent tour having been the tour of Southern Province constituency offices from 20th to 22nd July, 2018. The Speaker has embarked on the countrywide tour of constituency offices in order to be extensively acquainted with the operations of the offices, as well as to devise ways of making them more effective in serving the purpose for which they were established. 

Speaking when he visited Pemba Constituency Office, the Hon. Speaker stated that constituency offices should serve as centres of  democracy and development, he added that constituency office staff needed to engage in socioeconomic surveys because that would help MPs and the Government to be aware about needs of communities.

He further stated that the constituency offices should be receptacles of issues from communities and through MPs, the issues should be articulated and resolved at the National Assembly.

When Speaker Matibini visited the Livingstone Constituency Office, he was impressed to learn that the staff at the office were working with civil society organisations in creating awareness about the work of the National Assembly; he stated that it was an initiative that needed to be replicated across the country as enlightenment was a vital ingredient for democracy to thrive.  

During his tour, the Speaker also paid a courtesy call on the Southern Province Minister, Hon. Edify Hamukale who was delighted to welcome the Speaker to Choma Town, the Provincial Headquarters for Southern Province. 

Hon. Hamukale informed the Speaker that Choma Town was developing steadily and that it had seen an expansion in population growth in recent years.

The Hon. Speaker was accompanied on his tour of Southern Province Constituency Offices by Mrs. Cecilia N Mbewe, Clerk of the National Assembly and some senior members of staff. The constituency offices toured included, Pemba, Choma, Kalomo, Livingstone and Katombora.

This far, Copperbelt and Central Province Constituency Offices have also been toured by the Hon. Speaker.
