COMMONWEALTH PARLIAMENTARY ASSOCIATION MID-YEAR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING 24TH -28TH APRIL 2017

The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Mid-year Executive Committee Meeting opened in the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly, Darwin, Australia, on Wednesday 26th April, 2017. The meeting was officially opened by Rt. Hon. Shirin Sharmin, Chaudhury, Chairperson of the Executive Committee and Speaker of the Bangladesh Parliament. In opening the meeting, the Chairperson applauded the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly for providing excellent facilities for the meeting and extending a warm welcome to delegates.

She said that the CPA was committed to nurturing democracy, upholding the rule of law and bringing out the voices of the people in the Commonwealth.

She further stated that there were a number of challenges such as economic recession, climate change and human trafficking that transcended national borders. She said that these challenges made the CPA a necessary forum for Parliamentarians to share best practices on how to tackle them.

The Meeting is being attended by delegates from the nine Regions of the CPA. The Zambian Parliament is represented by Mr Lazarous Chungu Bwalya, MP, Regional Representative for Central Africa and Member of Parliament for Lupososhi Constituency.
