Empower Young People - Speaker

Speaker of the National Assembly, the Rt. Hon. Justice, Dr Patrick Matibini, SC, MP has said young people should be empowered in order for them to be active participants in the developmental agenda of the country.

He said this at the 2nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zambia Branch Local Seminar held at the Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, 29th July, 2015.   The Hon. Mr Speaker further said the Local Seminar provided an opportunity for Members of Parliament to share ideas on matters of common interest in the Commonwealth.

Meanwhile, Clerk of the National Assembly, Mrs Doris Mwinga said due to limited resources, only a few Members of Parliament are able to participate in the activities of the CPA at any given time, and that for this reason, the CPA Zambia Branch came up with the idea of hosting an annual local seminar in which all Members of Parliament in the Branch could participate.
She said the seminar was intended for Members to not only be well-informed on the current issues in the CPA, but also to share their ideas on the issues. “This seminar is, therefore, intended to give all Zambian Parliamentarians an opportunity to participate in a CPA activity and to appreciate the values and objectives of the Association”, said Mrs Mwinga.
The second of its kind, the CPA Local Seminar is organized by the CPA Zambia Branch Executive Committee and has become an annual event on the Zambian Parliamentary Calendar.
