Parliamentary Shepolopolo silences Zim MPs

The Zambian Parliamentary Netball Team on Saturday, 25th July, 2015 beat their Zimbabwe counterparts to a tune of 13-11.
The games that were played in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe saw the Zambian MPs dominate the first two quarters with Zimbabwe almost recovering in the third quarter.  However, the unbeatable Shepolopolo who were captained by Hon Annie Chungu dominated the fourth quarter with a resounding victory of 13-11.
Meanwhile, the Parliamentary Chipolopolo was beaten by the unstoppable Zimbabwean Parliamentarians by 4 goals to 1.  The Zim MPs who enjoyed home ground advantage took an early lead when Eric Murai released a shot from the left flank that took Zambian goalkeeper, Hon Forrie Tembo by surprise.  However, Zambia recovered through a goal by the team captain, Hon Whiteson Banda who converted a brilliant pass from Hon Vincent Mwale into a goal.
Zambia suffered further humiliation when man of the match, Trevor Saruwaka who terrorised the Zambian defence clinched a hat trick before half time.
And speaking at the farewell dinner hosted at Rainbow Hotel in honour of the Zambian Parliamentarians, Speaker of the Parliament of Zimbabwe, Hon Jacob Mudenda, MP said the games were an act of enhancing bilateral relations among the parliamentarians.  He added that social events such as sport were important in enhancing interaction among MPs who come from different political parties and countries.  He reiterated the need for the games to be introduced at the regional level in order for other countries to benefit.
Leader of the Zambian delegation and Minister of Youth and Sport, Hon Vincent Mwale, MP, who also spoke during the dinner, stated that the inter-parliamentary games had enhanced the bilateral relations between the two countries.  “The inter-parliamentary games have no doubt enhanced bilateral relations between our two countries in general and the National Assemblies in particular.  I therefore, call upon our Honourable Members and our staff to seize these opportunities to create friendships and to renew old acquaintances”, he said.
Last year, Zambia hosted the parliamentary games in Livingstone where the two countries competed in football and netball.  Zambia scooped the netball trophy while Zimbabwe got the football trophy.
