The National Assembly of Zambia Resumes Sitting

The Fourth Session of the Eleventh National Assembly, which adjourned sittings on Thursday 26th March 2015, resumes sittings today, Tuesday 16th June 2015 for the End of Year Meeting which runs between the months of June and July. This End of Year Meeting is expected to discuss a number of issues during its course.

In the first week of this Meeting from Tuesday 16th June to Friday 19th June, 2015, the Business of the House will include first readings of the Referendum (Amendment) and The Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Bills.

The House will also debate the Report of the Parliamentary Select Committee which was appointed to scrutinise the Presidential Appointment of Hon. Mr. Justice (Rtd) Esau Elliot Chulu and Dr. Emily Joy Sikazwe as Chairperson and Member of the Electoral Commission of Zambia respectively, and Mr. Nixon Mabvuto Banda to serve as Member of the Judicial Complaints Authority.

This Meeting of the National Assembly will see the return of some Members of Parliament and these include Mr. Kapembwa Simbao, MP (Senga Hill) and Mr. Michael Katambo, MP (Masaiti), formerly Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) MPs who return to the House on Patriotic Front (PF) tickets following by-elections that were held in their respective constituencies. The House will also see the return of Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Chisamba MP, Mr. Moses Muteteka who was recently pardoned.

The House will further welcome the new Chawama MP, Mr. Lawrence Sichalwe who comes to the House following a by-election. Three other Members from Malambo, Petauke Central, and Mulobezi Parliamentary Constituencies are to join the House after by-elections scheduled for Tuesday 30th June, 2015.
