ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF ZAMBIA ANNOUNCES 70 NEW PARLIAMENTARY CONSTITUENCIES

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), Mrs. Mwangala Zaloumis, SC, has officially announced the creation of seventy (70) new constituencies across the Republic of Zambia.

Speaking during the official announcement on Thursday, 16th April, 2026, at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka, Ms Zaloumis described the development as a significant milestone in the country’s democratic development and electoral reform process.

Mrs. Zaloumis explained that the delimitation exercise was conducted in accordance with the enactment of the Constitution of Zambia (Amendment) Act No.13 of 2025, which increased the number of Constituencies in the National Assembly from one hundred and fifty-six (156) to two hundred and twenty-six (226).

She added that the delimitation exercise aims to strengthen inclusivity, improve access to elected representatives, and deepen Zambia’s democratic governance.

Below is the provincial allocation for the 70 newly created Parliamentary Constituencies:

Zambia’s total number of Parliamentary Constituencies has risen from 156 to 226 following the creation of 70 new constituencies. Central Province now has 23 constituencies, Copperbelt 29, Eastern 29, Luapula 20, Lusaka 18, Muchinga 14, Northern 19, North-Western 19, Southern 29, and Western 26. The new allocations reflect increases across all ten provinces as part of the Electoral Commission’s latest delimitation exercise ahead of the 2026 General Election.
