THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY OF ZAMBIA AND THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY AGREE TO DEEPEN COOPERATION.

The Acting Clerk of the National Assembly of Zambia Mrs. Loveness Maambo Mayaka on the 25th September, 2025 in Berlin, Germany, has held bilateral talks with her counterpart, Paul Göttke, Secretary General of the Bundestag, the national parliament of the Federal Republic of Germany. Mrs. Mayaka who is leading a delegation of National Assembly staff to the Germany Bundestag, has called on the two institutions to further deepen their cooperation and collaboration for knowledge exchange and continuous learning between the parliaments. Speaking when she met Mr. Göttke, at the Reichstag Building in Berlin, Germany, Mrs. Mayaka expressed gratitude for the kind gesture of inviting the National Assembly delegation to visit the Bundestag in order to study and learn the governance system and procedures of the Germany legislative body. The National Assembly of Zambia and the Bundestag have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the planning and organization of plenary sessions. Mrs. Mayaka has also extended an invitation to Mr. Göttke, for a reciprocal visit to the Zambian Parliament. The Secretary General of the German Bundestag heads the Bundestag Administration as the highest federal authority on behalf of the President of the Bundestag and represents it in administrative matters. Mrs. Mayaka expressed gratitude to the Germany Federal Government for the financial and technical support rendered to the National Assembly of Zambia in setting up Parliament TV. She further expressed gratitude for support to parliament radio as well as the construction of 17 constituency offices in various areas of the country. And earlier on Monday, September 22nd 2025, Vice President of the Bundestag, Mr. Omid Nouripour, who hosted the Acting Clerk and the National Assembly delegation for lunch said he was delighted to host the delegation and emphasized the importance of the exchange visits describing as critical to learning about the parliamentary practices of other countries. Mrs. Mayaka is leading a delegation of staff of the National Assembly of Zambia to Berlin, Germany, at the invitation of the Bundestag. The study visit is focusing on areas such as public participation in parliamentary proceedings, support services to committees, utilization of constituency offices, budget oversight and research services to Members of Parliaments among others.
