ZAMBIA AND INDIA PLEDGE TO FOSTER COOPERATION

Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, The Rt. Hon Ms Nelly B K Mutti, MP has pledged to enhance the longstanding relationship between the Parliaments of Zambia and India.  

Speaking when she met the Indian High Commissioner to Zambia His Excellency Mr Ashok Kumar at Parliament Buildings in Lusaka on Wednesday, 16th November, 2022, Honourable Mutti said the bilateral relations between the two Parliaments have yielded positive results which include the parliamentary reforms embarked on by the Zambian Parliament. She added that the National Assembly of Zambia draws inspiration and guidance from many Indian authors, including Raul and Shakder, the authors of the book “Parliamentary Procedure and Practice.”

Further, the Honourable Madam Speaker expressed gratitude for the various training programmes offered at the Lok Sabha. She noted that, since the 1980s, several members of staff of the Zambian Parliament had undertaken foundation and refresher courses in parliamentary practice and procedure, as well as specialised courses, such as Legislative Drafting, organised by the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training of India. Speaker Mutti however acknowledged that over the years, the study visits had drastically reduced and she therefore, urged the office of the Clerk of the National Assembly to facilitate for the trainings.

The Indian High Commissioner to Zambia His Excellency Mr Ashok Kumar reiterated the need to enhance the relations between the two Parliaments.  He emphasized the importance of reinvigorating the Zambia India Parliamentary friendship group.  Mr Kumar added that the Indian Parliament was ready to receive the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia in order to strengthen the ties between the two Parliaments.
