CONSTITUENCY OFFICES CRITICAL IN THE WORK OF MPS, KAMANGA

The Principal Clerk of Parliamentary Reforms Programme (Programme Management) at the National Assembly, Mr Kamanga has urged the newly recruited constituency office staff to understand the critical role that constituency offices play in supporting the work of Members of Parliament.

Speaking when he officially opened the orientation workshop for thirty-one newly recruited constituency office staff on Monday, 16th May, 2022 at Ndozo Lodge in Chilanga, Mr Kamanga emphasized that constituency offices were set up for Members of Parliament to interact with constituents and to also serve as representation of the National Assembly at local level.

In addition, the constituency office staff had a privilege to meet the Chief Accountant, Dr Mweemba Muungo who urged them to apply the knowledge they had acquired during the workshop in their work. He emphasized the need to observe timeliness when submitting monthly financial reports.

The objective of the orientation was to strengthen the human and institutional capacity of newly recruited Parliamentary Constituency Officers in order to enhance the support provided to Members as they perform their functions.

The induction covered the mandate and operations of the National Assembly; the specific functions of Constituency Offices; and the role of other departments in fostering Constituency Office work.

The Lusaka workshop drew participants from Southern, Western, Lusaka and Central provinces was the second in the series of four planned workshops.

The workshop was concluded on Friday 20th May, 2022 after a tour of Parliament Buildings and Chongwe constructed constituency office.
