Malawian Parliamentarians date Zambia

A selected Task Force, made up of Members of Parliament from Selected Committees of the Parliament of Malawi paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia, the Rt. Honourable Nelly B K Mutti, MP on Tuesday, 26th April, 2022 at Parliament Buildings. The delegation is led by Honourable Dr Abel Kayembe, MP.

During the courtesy call, the Rt Honourable Speaker expressed gratitude that the Parliaments of Zambia and Malawi have continued to exchange and share best practices as evidenced by the visit. She added that this has also been extended to social interactions such as games between the two Parliaments.

Speaker Mutti said Zambia and Malawi share warm and cordial relations underpinned by shared cultural values, principals and language similarities. She reiterated that the Zambia-Malawi Joint Permanent Commission has provided a solid platform for cementing the relations and facilitating cooperation through developmental projects.

Apart from meeting the Honourable Madam Speaker, the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor, Dr Frank Chipimo, on Monday 25th May 2022. Senior Bank of Zambia Officials also made several presentations on Zambia's legal framework governing the regulation of commercial bank lending rates and other monetary topics.

The Parliamentarians are in the country to consult with the Bank of Zambia, the National Assembly of Zambia, the Ministry of Finance, Bankers Association of Zambia and the Securities and Exchange Commission on various issues including the Central Bank regulation of interests on loans from Commercial Banks, Legal Frameworks that govern the policies on regulating Commercial Bank interest rates, Monetary Policy Framework as well as to learn from Zambia's experience in capping lending rates.

The delegation arrived in the country on Sunday, 24th April, 2022 and is scheduled to depart on Wednesday, 27th April, 2022.
