QUESTIONS FOR ORAL ANSWER

10 Mr Kalunga - to ask the Minister of Energy and Water Development:

(a) whether there are plans to build more large dams in the country in view of the erratic weather pattern; and

(b) how many dams have been developed for irrigation purposes in Zambia.

11 Mr Sikota - to ask the Minister of Home Affairs:

(a) when will police officers be deployed to Simonga Police Post which was constructed in 2004;

(b) whether there are any plans to construct houses for police officers who will be operating at the police post as it is too far from Livingstone town centre;

(c) whether policemen posted to Simonga Police Post will receive rural hardship and risk allowances; and

(d) what measures have been put in place to stop vandalism of the police post whilst waiting for police to occupy it.

12 Mr P B Musonda - to ask the Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives:

(a) how much did the Government spend on importation of fertiliser from 1994 to 2003; and

(b) which countries was the fertiliser imported from.

13 Ms Nawakwi - to ask the Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives:

(a) how many cows are required to produce cattle manure for one hectare of maize;

(b) whether cattle manure is basal or top dressing; and

(c) at what point is cattle manure to be applied and how many times.

14 Mrs Musokotwane - to ask the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services when the installation of television and radio transmitters in rural areas will start in Katombola Parliamentary Constituency in order to improve reception.

15 Mr Haakaloba - to ask the Minister of Home Affairs:

(a) what procedures are followed by the Police before unidentified bodies are buried;

(b) why were the procedures at (a) above not followed in the case of the body discovered by a woman in Nachintyombwe in Magoye Parliamentary Constituency;

(c) whether the Ministry has initiated investigations into the case at (b) above; and

(d) if so, when can the outcome of the investigations be expected.

16 Mr P B Musonda - to ask the Minister of Health when the Government will release funds to electrify the Kabwe General Hospital Compound opposite the mortuary.

17 Ms Nawakwi - to ask the Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives:

(a) who was an improved farmer during the colonial days; and

(b) why were some farmers referred to as improved farmers.

18 Mr Shumina - to ask the Minister of Home Affairs:

(a) how many people were killed in the Western Province by ‘Karavinas’ (contract killers) from 1994 to 2004, district by district;

(b) how many of these killers have been arrested;

(c) whether the killers are Zambians or non-Zambians; and

(d) what measures have been put in place to root out these criminals.

19 Mr Sikota - to ask the Minister of Education:

(a) how many pupils from Livingstone District were enrolled to study at the Government universities between 2002 and 2005, year by year;

(b) how many of those in (a) above were girls; and

(c) how many students from Livingstone District were awarded Government bursaries at the two national universities for each gender during the same period.

20 Mr I M Phiri - to ask the Minister of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources whether the dilapidated infrastructure in the tourism sector will be rehabilitated before the end of the 2005 Visit Zambia Campaign and, if not, how will the sector succeed.

21 Mr Sichinga - to ask the Minister of Finance and National Planning:

(a) when the Government will prepare and issue the next Five Year National Development Plan;

(b) whether the Transitional National Development Plan (TNDP) was actually fulfilled in both physical and financial achievements and, if so, to what extent in both terms;

(c) how development programmes will be spread to ensure a balance between urban and rural areas; and

(d) whether the Government has considered employing measures that will achieve affirmative discrimination in favour of the rural areas in order to encourage an urban/rural drift.

22 Mr Shumina - to ask the Minister of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources what benefits have accrued to the villagers in Liuwa National Park in terms of the following:

(i) bore holes and water wells;
(ii) schools and health facilities;
(iii) poverty alleviation support among women and children; and
(iv) HIV/AIDS programmes.

23 Mr Muleya - to ask the Minister of Health:

(a) when a new modern hospital will be built in Choma District;

(b) when a new theatre will be constructed at the existing Choma Hospital; and

(c) whether there are any plans to construct health centres in the following wards:

(i) Simamuwa;
(ii) Stateland; and
(iii) Namuswa.

24 Mr Kalunga - to ask the Minister of Education:

(a) how many school desks were distributed to the three constituencies in Serenje District during the period January, 2003 to September, 2005;

(b) what was the total cost of the desks; and

(c) when will the Government distribute more desks to schools in Serenje District.
